Cannot Start The Game

Question

Posted

Hello, i'd love to play RO again and found this server, which looks very promising.

The problem i'm having is described and reproducible (for me) as follows:

  • I'm launching the game through the ForsakenRO Patcher as admin. Patching the game and launching it throws no errors.
  • After launching however, the game window is the size of the windows buttons, with a couple pixels of gamewindow to be seen.
  • If i go and launch the setup.exe (as admin of course) i can not select any resolutions.
  • When setting the game to fullscreen, instead of being tiny, it shows a white square for a couple seconds, then closes with no errors.

I have no idea what's going on. As i just tested 2 other servers and was able to play, it should definitely be a problem outside of my setup.
I looked through the FAQ and technical help sections but found nothing about this problem.
I also reinstalled the game which did nothing. Will try downloading and reinstalling it again while waiting for answers. Assume it didnt help if i do not answer tho.

Kind regards, Yoreki

Try the troubleshooting steps and make sure that you use fkenro.exe to open the game. You need to make sure that you patch the game using the patcher.

With the compatibility mode for Windows 7 i'm able to see / set resolutions in the setup.exe.

  • Not setting it to fullscreen still makes the window appear very small.
  • Setting it to fullscreen works at 1920x1080 resolution
  • It does not work (simply closes again) on my native resolution of 2560x1440, which is slightly annoying since it always resized windows such as the browser after closing RO.

So it.. kind of works now, but it's not really satisfying either.

Edit: Nevermind. Everytime i load a new map the game freezes at 100%, forcing me to shut it down since it overlays even the task manager ?
