Veracity Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 Hi all! We are thinking of making some changes to the wiki and how we handle guides. Here are a few possibilities: 1. We make it so anyone can contribute to the existing wiki, possibly with moderator approval. 2. We make a new section on the forums where players can post guides that will replace the existing wiki. Basically - Would people rather the "wiki" is integrated into the forums, or do you guys prefer having it as something a bit separate? Other key questions: What important information is currently missing that would be beneficial to new players and people unfamiliar with ForsakenRO? What would be the ideal way to present all of our custom items? E.g., a large database with all items listed, different topics for each way of obtaining items, e.g. quest/vote/event/etc. Here's an in-progress database I was working on awhile ago: http://www.forsaken-ro.net/forum/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages§ion=pages&id=6 It will display item name/slots, item preview, effect, where it equips, how much it costs, and where it's obtained from (e.g. what quest, I guess it could also list what NPC it's from too...) Do you guys like this approach? Since we have a lot, it's a bit tricky - I'd love to hear people's suggestions and ideas. Either way, now is a good time to start thinking of ideas for guides if you have any you'd like to contribute! 1
Desamor Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 Hi all! We are thinking of making some changes to the wiki and how we handle guides. Here are a few possibilities: 1. Basically - Would people rather the "wiki" is integrated into the forums, or do you guys prefer having it as something a bit separate? 1 and 2 are almost the same, because if people contribute to the wiki, that mean player posting it, but would be better something like "submit quest" or something, so people can submit to the actual wiki then a moderator can read it then add it (if it is worth) to the wiki, and in my opion, the wiki separate its better because is like You're just focusing on it. What important information is currently missing that would be beneficial to new players and people unfamiliar with ForsakenRO? For me nothing, since as soon You join server it give You link to the forums and give You some basic information of the server. What would be the ideal way to present all of our custom items? E.g., a large database with all items listed, different topics for each way of obtaining items, e.g. quest/vote/event/etc.Here's an in-progress database I was working on awhile ago: http://www.forsaken-ro.net/forum/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages§ion=pages&id=6 It will display item name/slots, item preview, effect, where it equips, how much it costs, and where it's obtained from (e.g. what quest, I guess it could also list what NPC it's from too...) Yea that would be the ideal, a database with with the current effect/cost etc...Like the donation section in the wiki :p!
Rayray Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 Quest guides can easily be done by one of the gamemasters since they know most of them so I do not think player input is needed there. It might become troublesome for the moderator of the wiki if TONS of people submit stuff that might just be trolling posts. For character build guides, I don't think those should be in the wiki though. We already have the classes sub-forums anyway. I suggest though that the gamemasters or admins read up some of the guides in there and Pin the guides that are worthy, so that we have few people asking the same questions over and over again. A large database is good. Instead of separating items regarding vote or quest or donation or events, just put a tag on the item that says what it is(vote, quest or donation or events) and make the database display all the items in a category at first, then have some kind of sort button in there so that the user can choose if he just want to see vote or quest items. The category of items should be on where they are worn(for equips, so the categories for that are upper, mid, lower, armor, weapon, shield, cloak, boots and accessories), then a category for cards(again, where they can be put), usable items, Tokens(and where they can be gotten so that we get fewer scam cases regarding this) and Quest items(primarily the ones that are from the raids). I could be missing stuff but that is the general idea i have. 1
Garrosh Hellscream Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 Hello Vera! The current Wiki still works for me since I first started playing in this server. It really is helpful. It's just a matter of updating the Wiki from time to time, so +1 on the idea to make it open to anyone to contribute with moderator approval. I also agree with Desamor that it will be the same if you start with a new section for the guides. So instead of making a new section, why not revamp the whole Wiki with more recent updates? :) The items with all the information is cool! We'd be needing that. But as of now, I just check via control panel. As a guild leader of Warsong (start up), I think I would need a more updated information on War of Emperium. Like what are the coordinates of the maps and it's schedules? What drops will we get from castle drops? For Guild vs Guild and Battle Royale, I know that there's a change on it's schedule. Will it also be a good idea if new guilds can also see how the map looks like so they can plan a good strategy with members? I'll try to think of something else. Brainstorming.. :)

thePast Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 It would be better if you guys actually change this wiki content : http://www.forsaken-ro.net/forum/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages§ion=pages&id=1&record=11 and bring back the previous thing that was there :o
Aerofox Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 Hi all! First of all, good day GM Vera c: I ultimately suggest that we put the wiki in something separate, like another website since we have mediocre to heavy limitations in the forums for it to serve as a proper wiki. We should just use those "articles" as the way they're intended to: provide news. What important information is currently missing that would be beneficial to new players and people unfamiliar with ForsakenRO? I've noticed all of the time when I was in fRO that some people don't know what Tokens are, if the RMS spawning time is followed here as it is, etc. Basically, I suggest that we revamp the beginner's guide to include more information and be detailed on the core mechanics and stuff. And this new beginner's guide's link should be in the message for novices when they go to Forsaken City for the first time. What would be the ideal way to present all of our custom items? E.g., a large database with all items listed, different topics for each way of obtaining items, e.g. quest/vote/event/etc. We have an item database in the control panel, right? :o How about we just provide a link in the wiki that will lead to that specific webpage of the control panel. Or, we can do something like a Dewey Decimal Classification for items, sample: There are several categories, and then there are subcategories under the categories, and each item that fits the category and subcategory will go on this specific webpage of the wiki. (I'll make an illustration after a day or two, was kindof sleepy when I made this reply.)Here's an in-progress database I was working on awhile ago: http://www.forsaken-ro.net/forum/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages§ion=pages&id=6 It will display item name/slots, item preview, effect, where it equips, how much it costs, and where it's obtained from (e.g. what quest, I guess it could also list what NPC it's from too...) Do you guys like this approach? Since we have a lot, it's a bit tricky - I'd love to hear people's suggestions and ideas. It says "error". :c I can't see it. I'll edit this post for additional information, and for that illustration.
Sensation Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 Hello, I might repeat certain suggestions given by players above, but that's because we'll be thinking alike. Now onto the questions Veracity posted: Hi all! As said before, 1&2 are basically the same, just the location where those posts end up are different. If the search engine on the forums could (by default) also include information from the Wiki, it'll be good to separate the guides (wiki) from the discussions (forums). Data about monsters (spawn time and possible health/stats) are welcome as well. Showing which custom mobs/fields we have and perhaps certain custom drops that differ from RMS will be greatly appreciated. However, those could be incorporated in quest/item guides as well. Basically, everything that's different from other information sources about RO is worth mentioning in a guide/video. Changes in the WoE system, times, locations, drops, mechanics and so forth. 1) Most information is supplied for starting users. An introduction video guide, narrated by someone with a clear voice might be nice though. Showing where the basic NPCs and key locations are, introduction into the currency system we're using and how to use the different tokens. Information currently provided in the Wiki has to be reviewed on its validity and if needs be, be replaced by/updated to a more up-to-date version. 2) The current control panel already contains a database of the items. However, looking up items isn't giving much information. People would like to know the source of the items that are obtainable and their effects. Those two key features are currently missing and a long forum search is required to get the information you want/need. Since a lot of item information is displayed in images rather than text, it sometimes also becomes impossible when the image links are broken/removed. Naturally, creating sections in the Wiki with back-links might be preferable as all the information will be in one place. 3) The in-progress database can't be viewed by us as of this moment. No feedback can be given, sorry.

Sensation Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 Can you guys fix this? http://www.forsaken-ro.net/forum/page/wiki/_/quests/misc-quests/elite-arrow-quest-r72 ! There seems to be no NPC in @warp ein_in01 19 87 ... Neither mobs in um_dun01 and um_dun02 which used to have the mobs containing some of the materials required. The NPC for legendary ammo is moved to for_elite 133 103, next to the Forsaken Master Forger.
