One Piece revolves around the world of pirates, where 'powers' are obtained through Devil-Devil fruits. FairyTail revolves around the world of wizards, mages, etc., where their 'powers' are obtained through a variety of methods (weapons, accessories, it comes naturally, teaching, etc.). One Piece's main focus is to reach the almighty treasure, One Piece. FairyTail on the other hand... not exactly sure. FairyTail's about a guild of mages with a set of protagonists who set out to do missions.

You'll see more Rave adventure characters and weapons/pwoers in there :)) This is true. There are characters in FairyTail that are more similar to Rave Master. One prime example of this is Lucy Heartfilia's summon, Plue (or Nikora) is the exact same Plue from Rave Master.

Their storylines are completely different and they're about different things. I personally don't see how it's similar to One Piece, but I'd still recommend it.
