Forum~ Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) While surfing through the RMS forums, I came upon an interesting topic... Creative Editing. In short, a RMS forum poster, "bleu", put up guides regarding how to make specific sprite changes within RO that do not negatively interfere with the intended gameplay (at least, I believe so). They include: removing the blindness effect (not a problem for this HR server :P), simplifying wizard effects, allowing for full zoomed out views of maps (such as abbey I believe...), etc. Examples of his Creative Editing: http://www.ratemyserver.net/forum/index.ph...pic,8937.0.html http://www.ratemyserver.net/forum/index.ph...ic,10609.0.html http://www.ratemyserver.net/forum/index.ph...pic,8940.0.html These benefits come with essentially the removal of lag for some of the unfortunate players. However, they also come with what others might consider an unfair advantage. Now, I've been playing for 2 years now but I have no idea if this sort of client-side modifications are legal (I'm taking up bleu's disclaimer to be sure.) BASICALLY, CAN I DO THIS KIND OF STUFF TO MY RO FILES? If it's illegal, well then forget whatever I just posted. And yeah, thanks for your response. Edited May 4, 2010 by Forum~
-R e i Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 I don't think that this is illegal... o.o Look on the bright side... you know what path to take!
Forum~ Posted May 5, 2010 Author Report Posted May 5, 2010 (edited) Can someone of authority verify this? :/ I mean, before the 3rd job sprite patcher came out, I heard some people already replaced them... Isn't that essentially the same thing? Edited May 5, 2010 by Forum~
Ryuk Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 I think the changes towards the shaking (LoV, Storm gust, Meteor storm) are completely legal. However altering things such as the perma blind isn't. this is because you would be changing the skills effect instead of only it's sprite.

Sure, I can just /effect, but the shaking is still there. If I learn how to, I want to remove the shaking from other skills like Heavens Drive and ESPECIALLY Fury. I totally understand why stuff like perma-blind would be more towards the illegal-side.
Cirrus Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 About the Blind though, we're in a highrate server where all other Blind effects are more or less nullified already, what's disabling it with Demon, when SG's are kinda useless as well. Lol.

Ryuk Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 This topic is not about an balance issue, it's about altering your client. And changing skill effects by altering your client would be considered illegal, just because SG's are underpowered in your opinion it doesn't mean you're allowed to cheat to make them better.

O_O; Ok, so now I understand the SG change would be illegal. However, I was exploring options to reduce my lag (and maybe of others) by removing the shaking from skills like MS, Fury, Heavens Drive, LoV, etc. Is there anything illegal with this?
Cirrus Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) Who's talking about issues? I for one just stated. What if I lag with Demon? Then it's an performance issue now? Technically, the blindness effect with Demon doesn't have hit reduction, so it's purely visual. As with Wizard skill effects that are visually impairing, especially in an environment that we can spam them with zero or almost 0 cast delay, it's not only the shaking but the masses of light that the skills invoke. Not to mention... what's blind effects? Huh? Don't bother, though, I don't care what you'll say, as long as it isn't sprite editing for unlimited spam I don't have a problem with anything. Ryuk Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 The perma blind of the Star gladiator skill is a debuff that was made on purpose and is MEANT to be a debuff. The shaking of LoV/Meteor storm however is just an effect to make the game look better, it was not meant to be a debuff/disadvantage of any kind. by removing the shaking from skills like MS, Fury, Heavens Drive, LoV, etc. Is there anything illegal with this? In my opinion no, However I'll ask Genesis since he'll have the final word in things such as these.
Apo Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Endless people modified their clients for their own needs without asking since things placed in your DATA/GRF are purely visuals that doesn't interfere with the game mechanism in any sort, so with that said it shouldn't be illegal to do so. Put it that way, would changing of pair of underwears change someone's personality?
Annie Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 would changing of pair of underwears change someone's personality? Are they magic?
supream Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 as long as it dosent give u unlimited spam who cards
supream Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 LOL i ment to say care. but this is just like making rop look like emp in your pc. dosent change anything.
Forum~ Posted May 13, 2010 Author Report Posted May 13, 2010 Alright, this topic has cleared a lot of things up for me. However, I'll still wait for Ryuk's final say on this :P Thanks guys.
