I was skeptical because they were able to go into a chatroom limited to 2 people, as in there were 4 people in a chatroom that was limited to 2. I was mainly motivated to keep pulling this along because of the youtube videos I recentlyish watched of others messing with scammers. Also I had the intention of making this post and wanted more material to post about, rather than the same post as before, tried to add on skype, the end.

wooow, is this guy an actual player in this game? I thought for some reason he was just going around private OR servers and targetting people there for some reason.

Np, helps that I recently-ish watched a couple videos on internet scams and am a bit more conscious of these things. Literally when I was first talking to them in game I kept saying how it smelled like a scam, wonder what that was like to them on the other side, seeing someone suspect them of scamming so early.

For those unaware, this kind of scam is not just to get your account info, its usually something more along the lines of locking up your PC and not giving you back access unless you pay some ransom.

There was a previous post where someone said someone added them on skype posing as GM Genesis. I'm sure I just got hit by the same guy, good thing I did a quick search on forums and found that thread. I'll break down everything that happened below so no one else falls for it. TL;DR : Names used : "Merry Happy New Year" and 2 others masquerading as GM Genesis and Veracity (just joined so i'm not sure how GM names are formatted here) email used in skype : [email protected] told me they needed a new GM tried hard to make it all very convincing had me download "GM Commands.txt" told me to download "team.exe" from a mediafire link which was just teamviewer to gain access over my pc First someone named "Merry Happy New Year" pm'd me in game. I forgot what he/she said, but asked if I was from asia and some other stuff. Sooner or later told me to @go 21, then said to just @warp to some coords that was near the helpdesk in town. He then made a chat for me to join, then 2 other 'GMs' joined the chat, but their names weren't visible in the chat room. This made me think believe they were real GMs because I don't know any other way you can do this. So I added the person on skype, [email protected]. I already had worries from the beginning that this was some scam, and it only got more intense when I was told to talk over skype and to exit out of RO. He told me the reason I was scouted was because I'm new so I don't have friends or foes (I previously told them in game that I'm completely new to this server). In attempts to make it seem more legit, he outlined that I would be an event GM, that I'd just need to do events around 30 mins a day blah blah. Gave me a txt file to download over skype, I poked around it for a bit to see if it was anything more than a txt file, didn't seem like it. Was just another bit to make this whole thing seem more convincing. After a bit more talking he sent me the download link to team.exe through a mediafire link. -BLARING RED ALARMS, THIS NIGGA TRYING TO FUCK YO SHIT UP- I downloaded it. He claimed it was to use GM commands and characters. I already know you don't need some special program to use GM commands nor use a GM account. Upon downloading I saw the logo it had, same as Teamviewer. For anyone that doesn't know teamviewer allows someone else to access control over your computer by giving them your access information, very commonly used in these scams. At that point I just finally said this is definitely a scam now and he removed me from skype, and the "Merry Happy New Year" character in game didn't respond to me, even though he/she was clearly moving around. I think most gamers have a game that they strongly hold onto because it was their childhood favorite. I only had a low end PC. Found RO during elementary school and played it till beginning of high school. Coming back now because I'm trying to limit how much time and attention I spend on games while in college. Also last I remember, at some point RO just turns into a fancy chatroom LOL. Anyways, my first character will probably be a sin just cause that was my tradition. Named BaconInMyPants because it was the name I had the most fun with.(EDIT: holy fuck someone actually took that name already?? Going with the alias EggsInMyShirt) See you guys in game!
