Mint Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Wow, I have just been told that I can't celebrate Christmas because I don't believe in god. >.>
Mint Posted December 22, 2011 Author Report Posted December 22, 2011 Wasn't even someone with strong religious beliefs, it was someone the exact opposite. Apparently i'm not a 'True Atheist' whatever that is, because I celebrate Christmas (Which was commercialised as a gift-giving holiday the last time i checked)
Xtopher Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) "Christmas or Christmas Day (Old English: Crīstesmæsse, literally "Christ's mass") is an annual commemoration of the birth ofJesusChrist,[5][6] celebrated generally on December 25[2][3][4] as a religious and culturalholiday by billions of people around the world. A feast central to the Christianliturgical year, it closes the Advent season and initiates the twelve days ofChristmastide.[7] Christmas is a civil holiday in many of the world's nations,[8][9][10] is celebrated by an increasing number of non-Christians,[1][11][12] " - Wikipedia It is at its core a religious holiday. You obviously don't have to be Christian to celebrate it. Whether you're an atheist or not isn't really a big deal. It's pretty much fact that Jesus Christ existed and I think everyone is free to celebrate his life/birth regardless of whether you believe he was God the Son incarnated or that he came back from the dead. Or, you can just look at it as a time to celebrate being with loved ones and exchanging gifts. Someone telling you what you can and cannot celebrate is probably just so full of their own bullshit opinion that their judgement is clouded. Edited December 22, 2011 by Xtopher 1
coffee break Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 Christmas is when all our family members (including our grandma, granddad, uncle, auntie, cousins, and others) are all together and feel the warm of bonding with them. Its like family reunion hahah... Well its a culture so.. even non-Christian can celebrate it.. We also thank that we surpass our problems and trials this 2011. Then.. we don't lose anything if we celebrate Christmas. Ryt? =D XD 1
Kittie Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 I celebrate Christmas and I hate religious zealots. YAY.

Appie Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 Ugh, that's sad that someone had the audacity to say such a thing. They are definitely WRONG. Christmas is a cultural holiday as well as a religious holiday. If you're like me, you grew up celebrating a holiday that the majority of your country celebrates. Not just because it started as day to celebrate the birth of Christ, but, because it's a holiday that unites, spreads love and joy, and most importantly- gives back! To me, those aspects of the holiday are much more important. 2
Justice Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 Many people here are right, and I agree. Christmas has a huge cultural side to it too. I may celebrate it for it's religious side, but I certainly wouldn't discourage someone from enjoying the festivities. :/ That's really just not nice. What a Scrooge that person must be.
HealHard Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 I dont think that all the leople who celebrate christmas are religious enough to be actually happy about the fact that approximately 2000 thousand years ago a very special jew was born. So just celebrate it with them because its a good reason be closer to each other. In fact, all religions are made to bring people hope and peace. So if you can find powers within yourself in hard situation to go on in life, then you can tell that person either "I do not need God to be happy" or to be polite with him "I have my own little God within myself". Otherwise, believing in something may not be such a bad thing. If that can stop you from suicide (because you gonna burn if hell for that), then it is a good thing because there is no "Return to last save point" option in life. you just exit the game to black screen.
