Infernal Capes

I've seen a few threads so far and I agree to some extent with most of them. Now the main issue with the staff is that they can't make them work on every class as a single item because of the sprites looking different on every class. I have an idea... why not just change the sprite of the item itself? Like Dudu suggested make it a scarf or something and to be honest, I'm sure many others would agree, the current sprite doesn't even look good or appealing! It's horrendous if you ask me.

There's a very simple solution, yes it will cost the staff some work, but in the end improve an item and make the demand higher. Once this happens you can raise the price for your hard work. The item would work exactly like the Valk Armor, which was split into two class groups, but in our case we would broaden it. I know it's more work, but it wouldn't kill any one scripter to do it.

I myself haven't seen a single cape in game or any demand for them at all... I myself would donate for one, but it's too expensive, only works on 1 class, and they look ugly as hell! Besides looks, in my honest opinion the cape on some of the current classes is a much better choice than sacred wings. I'm sure if Genesis changed the sprite to something different that's better looking, sprite looked the same on every class, and was turned into a single item the demand would rise, people would be willing to pay more in donations and so forth.

Well.... People have already donated for them... So I think its kind of too late for that...

Plus, some people don't care about looks as long as the PvP benefit is there.

If poopoo hat and moustache gave better stats you better believe I'd be wearing them!

Side note: Please try to be respectful to the people who designed and spent a lot of hard work making something for us. Calling it "ugly as hell" is kind of a slap in the face to the person who made it. Can you make better?

I'm not the only one who said they wouldn't buy it strictly because it's not appealing in the fashion department, half the server has. Your argument about people already donating for them, that's simple. In the database every current Cape has an id # that can be changed into a different item, i.e. all of the current capes databse # changed into the new cape item to be created. Whoever donated will have the new item and problem solved through the database.

PS. Cape = fail for cross dressing Gypsy/Clown, they will end up with no cape! Lol.

Vaguely suggesting a whole new sprite, to me, basically just underlines how

much you dislike the appearance of the cape, which is undeniably obvious.

(doesn't look good, not appealing, horrendous, ugly as hell)

I don't like the balloons and could happily live the rest of my life without seeing

another chibi headgear, hairdo, rucksack or wings but I wouldn't suggest a whole

new sprite just to satisfy my own asthetic needs. If it's truly beneficial, I'll use it

regardless of 'fashion'.

I know some people think it's hideous, but some people think it's awesome.

Everyone has different tastes. That's the way things go.

Aside from it's looks, I think it's best to just look at it as if it were an elite weapon,

you have to have a different one for each class.

It's difficult, but it's not a horrible concept.

"Looks" of an item are highly subjective. Everyone I've heard from have loved how the capes look and think they're one of the best looking items in game. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean everyone else doesn't too. Many people have disliked how some other items we've added look, but we're not going to change those either because some people love those sprites. It's impossible to appeal to everyone. The sprites aren't going to be changed, the staff worked really hard on adding them and fixing the ACT file, etc. If you don't like it, don't donate for it. No one is forcing you to! (:

I just threw in a random opinion of my thoughts fashion wise, the fact still remains that this sprite cannot work on all the jobs from a single sprite, hence why we have to buy single capes for every character. Which everyone agrees is a big FLAW and makes it an over priced donation with no big interest to the common people. This is why people continue to use Sacred Wings, Baloons, and Rucksacks... because it's undeniable that people use multiple characters and not one person would like to donate for 2-3 capes just so they can use one for their WoE character which is for most people different than their PvP main. Of course there's others who just get bored of PvPing with the same class and just like to switch it up between 2 characters and of course the cross dressing Gypsy/Clown trannies still remain! Lol.

You are all forgetting that this is indeed a lower headgear, the single item should fit all jobs. You can't compare them to weapons and say, "Well there's one for every class, so why not capes as well?" That's because weapons are meant to be for a single class, or else what's the point of having weapon types like knuckles, whips, etc. This is like every video game, only weapons are job class specific, and everything headgear or armor wise works for every class.

"What's worth of a fancy (i.e. Couch, Louis Vuitton wallet) wallet if it doesnt have money in it"

Same thing with the "looks." Yes it's fancy, but is it beneficial for a player's different character(s) too?

Very true, from my knowledge there's only 2 capes in game, one being a SinX and the other Champ. So if I am wrong and it's a fact that the problem isn't the sprite or the item being class specific, why isn't there more capes in game? I've talked to a cape owner and he agrees that it's lame the cape is class specific, as for the sprite he's indifferent about it. If you can't change the sprite or don't want to, then I agree with the other thread that mentioned an NPC that swaps the capes. Either or, as long as it doesn't remain class specific and the need to buy multiple capes for multiple characters.

Just to be clear, we are not going to completely dump all of Shield's work. The guy stayed up till 6 am on SEVERAL nights in order to get these items done on time. I would be as respectful to him, and any other spriter, as possible. The majority like how the sprite looks, its a pain that its class specific but we have explained on multiple occasions why that is the case. The only changes that are being done to the capes is an effect boost, which Xtopher's topic is doing. If your plan is to change the effects, I would head over there. Again, the sprite of the capes is not going to be changed.

I'm not saying to dump all of the work, but what's wrong with the NPC earlier suggested that would trade capes? If it helps I as a donator would be willing to donate to help implement this, $ pays off for work. Wouldn't you say? Isn't your opinion a bit bias as well? More capes = more $ x18 for a donation item. I'm not against making profits to support the server, but turning one new donation item into 18 different donations and the need to donate for multiple ones if you play multiple classes is a bit too much.

The main reason to suggest a different sprite is because the current sprite has issues with a single sprite working on all classes, why would one agree to still continue with the sprite if this problem was encountered? Unless you exploited this fact and saw it as an opportunity to make multiple items out of one and more capital off one donation. I'm not pointing fingers, but if I'm wrong why not just implement an NPC that interchanges the capes?

As I stated earlier, its not a money issue. I get the impression you think I am trying to milk this. As I mentioned in various other topics, I considered creating an exchange NPC. However, there were two fundamental reasons why I chose not to. First, I have no idea (realistically none of us do) what the effects on the economy would be. Second, there are 18 capes, with 18 possibilities. 18 x 18 = 324. This means we would have to code 324 possibilities. Assuming they take up 1 line each (they sure won't, expect at least 10) they would be 3/4 of ALL npcs in Forsaken City. That's just to give you an idea of just how much work that would entail. Currently, we have no plans to create a exchange NPC. I understand your reasoning (as I expect you to understand mine) regarding this issue. By no means do I want you to feel unwelcome here, quite the opposite. However, you have been back for only a few days, while you are free to make suggestions I would stay away from directly or indirectly accusing me or any other administrator of what I understand as a exploitative money grab. If I could fund this server myself, you can bet I would never create a new donation item ever again. However, its simply not possible.

I was only stating possibilities and I never accused you of anything, I only said that if it weren't true then work could be put in right? I understand the NPC would be a lot of work, but isn't that why people are donating to the server, so work like that could be possible and appreciated? The only other option I see worth donating for these class specified capes, is if the stats are re worked and buffed, so that every cape is actually useful to their class.

People donate to the server to keep it running smoothly, which it does. You don't quite understand the sheer amount of work that would take. Easily weeks of work. Xtopher has a topic reevaluating the effects, I am waiting for more people to give their input before changing them.
