Xtopher Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 A post in the music section hit me with nostalgia over this series. I loved the theme of the games as a whole and the music was simply fantastic. The anime is definitely only good if you watch it while playing the games. I really wish they had a successful mmorpg, I'm sorry ragnarok but I would probably drop you like a brick... at least for a little while (I always come back to RO). Your thoughts? Haters gonna hate?
Memory Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 I haven't played all of IMOQ but I've beaten all 3 G.U. games, seen all the animes, read the mangas, and watched the OVAs. It's probably my favorite if not second favorite game series. (Halo would be the other one. Haters Gonna Hate). Its story was compelling, and made all who watch wish for that to be real. It's premise was exactly what gamers wanted. A MMORPG that was 100% customizable, the ability to play with anyone, do anything. The idea of immersing yourself into the game with the goggles was also a fan favorite. It was probably my first Dungeon crawler, and the grinding annoyed me but I got over it. I liked how the G.U. Series made it easier to play through the whole game.
Rayray Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 Loved the .hack in general since I am an online gamer and if there is a game liked that, I would definitely play it. My avatar in the forums is a character in G.U.(Endrance, my favorite video game character :p)
Xtopher Posted July 28, 2010 Author Report Posted July 28, 2010 Glad to see others appreciate the games. It's definitely my second favorite series just behind Kingdom Hearts (very close second). @Memory: Yeah they definitely knew how to appeal to a specific audience (the mmorpg fan base). The GU series was much easier but I really liked being able to switch weapon/combat styles. @ZerO25: I noticed that about your avatar a long time ago. I think there are a few more members with .Hack character avatars as well. Almost every server I've ever played has a Haseo. I like the idea of a super rare one of a kind item in a game. One so rare that it's only a rumor. No mmo I've ever played has anything like that (I guess in fear of imbalance).
maxlittle007 Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 The anime is definitely only good if you watch it while playing the games Ya its a great experience
Lenneth Celie Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 I heard they were working on an online version and I only played the first game and watched the first series which was better than the rest. I won't watch he other as they weren't as great as the first. If they do come out with an online version, I would be all over it as it was a big time favorite for me in the past.
Memory Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 How can you make that assessment? "I only played the first game and watched the first series", If you've only watched and played the first game how can you be sure the others aren't better? Also by first game do you mean Game series? Cause Infection Mutation Outbreak Quarantine are all parts of the same game.
Xtopher Posted July 30, 2010 Author Report Posted July 30, 2010 There was already an online version released in Japan. Apparently it failed and they closed all the servers. They've been quoted saying they will not bring this version of the game to the US. .hack//frägment .hack//frägment is a multiplayer online game based on the fictional MMORPG, The World. It was released only in Japan on November 23, 2005 and online service lasted for about a year. Designer Hiroshi Matsuyama described the game as a way to see how players would react to online play.[58] The gameplay of .hack//frägment is nearly identical to that of the .hack video game series. Players explore areas and fight monsters in real time. A major difference is that during online play, the action does not pause when the menu is opened. Players may still use the skill "Data Drain" to weaken monsters and collect rare items.[59] The user interface and control scheme is otherwise unchanged. Players may create their characters based on a number of preset body shapes and color schemes and may freely choose a class (such as Wavemaster, Twin Blade, etc.) and character name. There are two main modes of play: online and offline. In online mode, players may enter a lobby and search for up to two other players to join them on an adventure.[60] The game includes an expanded communication interface that allows players to chat, send e-mail, post to an in-game Bulletin Board System, and receive server news updates.[61] It is possible to establish ad-hoc chat rooms, separate from the public-access ones. Guilds are permanent, exclusive chat rooms for its members.[60] A guild may establish a guild shop for both members and non-members, with full control over prices. In offline mode, players may level up, obtain items, and learn new skills as one of their online mode characters, without the need for an Internet connection. Instead of having other players as party members, the player may invite characters from the .hack games, .hack//Sign, and .hack//Legend of the Twilight into the party.[59] A "story mode" where the player's character acts out the plot of the .hack games is available.[59] Also while offline, players can use a PC utility called "HackServer" to create their own areas and dungeons and make them available online.[60] The creators of the most popular areas are given the ability to add stronger monsters for players to defeat.[62] Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.hack#Video_games Maybe they will one day reenter the online market... Until then one can only dream. I believe the actual timeline of the game suggests that The World exists in 2010... So if they wanted to launch a online version I would hope it would be this year.
Wish Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 I played through the original games in preparation for GU, but somehow, I never got around to them. Maybe that was because I saw my friend play through most of them...I agree with Memory. The story line really draws you in and just has you fantasizing. After all, that kind of technology isn't too far into the future. About the MMO version...It would be amazing if they were able to create the technology and truly release The World. It would be possible, but fairly expensive at this point. But if the world keeps advancing at its current pace, maybe it isn't as far off of a dream as we might imagine.
Rayray Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 The goggles and controllers they supposedly use is not far from what we can do now to be honest :) I really would want an online version of The World. Imagine fighting in the arena, being an emperor and such. Being able to be a rouge there(like haseo) would've been so fucking awesome.
Xtopher Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 They definitely know how to capture their audience. Sadly, I think that by the time any technology like that is being used I'll be too old to play... I'm already in my 20s.
Rayray Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 I'd still play though, my chosen career path will eventually make me play it anyway :p.
Lenneth Celie Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 How can you make that assessment? Cause Infection Mutation Outbreak Quarantine are all parts of the same game. I have seen the other series and even have some of the Dvd's but the quality lacks in the other series and taking too much on what the first series had done rendering it pointless to watch in my opinion. :/ I wanted to buy the other games in the series, but always forgot about it.
