Apo Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 Lately, I've been victim as much as many others or impersonators, using the exact same name but with the famous Alt+255 that we all know of, this may seem irrevelant but people uses that to impersonate as people's friend to gain their trust and borrow items, giving them bad reputations or whatsoever, what I suggest is that we disable alt codes in names and give people a set amount of time to either rename or remake their characters to avoid further issues of this kind. What would you think?
rinrin Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 As fun as it is to have two people with the same name running around, I agree. Especially since scam cases have been happening a lot lately.
Danny Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 Agree Especially since scam cases have been happening a lot lately.
Kakakelvin Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 Yeah I gotta say, theres been a lot of scamming lately. I got scammed not long ago because of this (Alt + 255). You got my vote. Thanks sensei.
supream Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 (edited) i have my system of loaning using questions only people i know for a while know. or even have them in a guild so they can just share using g storage. but i guess i agree. Edited May 3, 2010 by supream
Cirrus Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 I agree. It's annoying to see all those ugly character names you can't PM easily too. And I ask anyone who borrows stuff from me to go on MSN and message me there.
Veggie&Mac Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 I Agree, but my Main Rule is not borrow my items to anyone, since my boyfriend and i got scammed for "Supposed Friends", as we know the gms cant do anything about "BorrowScammed items". Agree.
Apo Posted May 4, 2010 Author Report Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) I'm pretty sure that GMs are affected by this too, broadcast abuse with unwritable names Edited May 4, 2010 by Apo

Ahaha yeah, this system works for us... Lately, I've been victim as much as many others or impersonators, using the exact same name but with the famous Alt+255 that we all know of, this may seem irrevelant but people uses that to impersonate as people's friend to gain their trust and borrow items, giving them bad reputations or whatsoever... I have to agree with this. Very easy to scam players; a problem for the community and the GMs. what I suggest is that we disable alt codes in names and give people a set amount of time to either rename or remake their characters to avoid further issues of this kind. What would you think? (NOOO, I like my name "ßoßo"...!) When you suggest that we give players time to switch their names, renaming is fine (no idea how this would be accomplished...), but remaking is unfair to players who may have become elite or have accomplished something significant with that in-game character name. Unless this was re-compensated, I believe we should either keep the alt codes or we rename the accounts. Also, maybe we could just remove the Alt+255 (and other space character codes) if possible. OR YEAH, we can just be careful when lending equipment out. Edited May 4, 2010 by Forum~
sEretLy cute In disguiZe Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 agreed special characters should be disabled to begin with
Forum~ Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) alt+255 alt+0160 I suppose these are the "space codes"? What a hassle it would be to remake all the characters and re-compensate all the loss if this change occurred (unless you can just change the name of the same account). Mass QQing would ensue for sure. Edited May 4, 2010 by Forum~
Apo Posted May 4, 2010 Author Report Posted May 4, 2010 Everything result into massive QQing no mather what, so it's the inevitable, and 90+% agreed so far
supream Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 i see people with similar names like mine. dosent cause me to get mad about anything. special characters are annoying, just because people agree dosent meen its going to go into effect asap might take weeks to put it in.
Josef Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 It won't be just annoying, if the others would have the name as mine and broadcast abuse and the one end up getting banned would be me. Not fun. What if I get banned like a few hours before woe, I will then end up missing woe. sadface.
Perishable Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 I Agree. This sucks too, like for an example. I'm going to use one of my character. Star Galaxy, if someone makes Star(Alt 255)Galaxy and broadcast abuse, the real one gets banned if a GM @ban 5h Star Galaxy without knowing its not the real one, the one with Alt+255 code and sucks for the one who didn't broadcast abuse gets banned.

Point taken. OK, so let's say this passes. How would this change be carried out (remake/rename/re-compensation)?
Apo Posted May 5, 2010 Author Report Posted May 5, 2010 I'm willing to offer my support if needed, and will also require some work from our GMs to help us filter them good and the bad, but the longer we wait the worser it'll get.
zac Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 (edited) I may agree. But if it is implemented dont expect peoples names to be changed that already have alt code in it. It is not easy to just provide name changes for these characters or even to do it themselves. im sure there are hundreds of characters with alt code in it and i doubt the gms have time or patience to filter these names out. Besides theres a rule against impersonation / scamming i belive , if you get caught in a scam well all i can say is dam.. i have been victim to scam and was my item recovered, no. "there is nothign we can do about it" Edited May 10, 2010 by zac
Apo Posted May 14, 2010 Author Report Posted May 14, 2010 // Set the letters/symbols that you want use with the 'char_name_option' option. // Note: Don't add spaces unless you mean to add 'space' to the list. char_name_letters: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ1234567890 And we would stop people from making any further actions, then we slowly clean up the mess from there.
