Kirou Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 My suggestion is... Instead of the new optional patch, which makes all sprites into the Third Class, perhaps it could be made more optional than that. In the sense that a player has the option to make a single character into Third Class, and which all other players can see too. Perhaps this can be done through an NPC? I personally don't like the fact that the new patch is so one-sided. Would it not be better for a player to choose between two different sprites, for each of their characters? This would be a decision that everyone can see, and provides more variety within the server and individual expression. If my explanation isn't clear, please let me know and I'll try to place it in better words. =]

Adamxd Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 (edited) You mean a npc class sprite changer?if you want to be 3rd u are 3rd and wanna change it back you become again2nd right? Well. I dont really care how does it look like, i dont play it for graphics but why not. On the other hand I guess it would be pretty hard to do such a npc. Edited April 23, 2010 by Adamxd

Changing into Trans class and 3rd Job class so others can see it. Just like the stylist NPC, changing clothes into Trans clothes and 3rd Job Clothes.

Just like the stylist NPC, changing clothes into Trans clothes and 3rd Job Clothes. Yes, exactly what I meant! I found it difficult to put it into words, but relating it to the Stylist NPC works well. Veggi&Mac's solution works, but it really isn't quite the same as what I personally would prefer. I'm sure I'm not alone in this. It is too one-sided for someone just to choose how they see all sprites, because I doubt everyone would want to represent their own characters as whatever preference the other user chose. For example, if I was to be on my Sin X, I wouldn't really want other people to see it in the Third Job version - I'm alot fonder of the regular Transcendent sprite. My Gypsy, I would probably want to keep switching between the two - I really like both.
Genesis Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 You can't do this. You either stick to the normal sprites or go with the 3rd class sprites. To my knowledge the client doesn't permit anything else.

To my knowledge the client doesn't permit anything else. Oh, okay. Why is that exactly? With my limited knowledge of the fundamentals of RO, I don't see the difference between changing sprites and changing the cloth colours. Why can it not work the same? Or in some other method, perhaps through the Control Panel.
Deceptive Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 You can select to view only certain jobs, deleting jobs from the DATA folder, as shown in the picture;) is better ;) DaniCakes♥ Thanks for this, I completely forgot this was possible ;D . /lv

To my knowledge the client doesn't permit anything else. It can be done, but it require work from both side data and emulator, you'd have to create a duplicate of all trans classes and add them to the job changer npc so people can turn into a Rune Knight and keep their Lord Knight skills, ect Edited April 24, 2010 by Apo
Cirrus Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 A change in sprite is a change in job class as they've said, and what Apo said is the workaround for not doing the easiest way to do this.
Appie Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 It kinda bothers me too that now not everyone is viewing the game the same. I can also see why some people don't want the new sprites- gravity kinda failed hard with the exception of a few classes. I just don't agree with how (as stated above) one sided this patch is. Adding new job classes isn't really that hard.. you could just implement the classes as they are. It takes work but running a server means working at improving it, right? And the only "improvement" i've noticed is adding more unnecessary cash shop gears. If anything adding the new job classes would be a step forward in having them fully implemented. Obviously the skills still need adjusting and balancing but that doesn't mean you can't get started on it.

In order to do that you need funds to support it, which we did not have which is why we added a new donation item. I believe you are undermining the work the entire staff is doing, specially since we work for free and only ask your respect and consideration in return. There were a number of bug fixes done which improved the server itself, so your statement is far from accurate. Regarding the actual suggestion itself it would be better to simply wait till the Third Classes are added officially to the server (no release date thus far). PS: To answer your question Kirou, the client reads the class sprites themselves from a set path, but the palettes for color changes can be swapped through because they are simply alternations of the original sprites (not completely different sprites). It also reads from specific color regions from within the palette and illustrates them ingame, which is why some palette numbers look funky on certain classes. To my knowledge Gravity did not engineer their client with the ability to exchange one class sprite with another. =] I'm going to leave the topic open for a Senior GM to review it, but I myself disagree with the implementation of custom classes for any reason. I apologize if my post has any grammatical or spelling errors typing this late at night.
-R e i Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Can't you just do it like... The Christmas thingy... suit /heh I mean, it's like a food that if we eat it we turn into a 3rd Job Sprite but of course keeping the skills of a trans... /? But I think if you eat it you can't use skills /heh . I don't know if that's a good idea..
Cirrus Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 (edited) I still believe that continuing with the bug fixes and necessary content updates is more important than all these eye candy, why not just be thankful that they provided something nice but not even necessary, that all of us could live even if it wasn't provided. I myself tweaked it a bit to show the 3rd job classes on the Trans classes I like, like how Dani over there ^ did it. Don't use it if you don't like it as it is, and ask the ones who matter to you to do the same thing. Maybe no one gives a shit about how you look. Edited April 24, 2010 by Cirrus
Perishable Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 (edited) That isn't what the OP suggested, he/she suggested the ability to interchange between Tran and Third Class using an NPC. Yes. That is what I meant, the ability to interchange between Tran and Third Class using an NPC. Just like changing your Hair style, Hair Color, Cloth Color, not Job. Interchange between Tran and Third Class using an NPC, if that is possible. Edited April 24, 2010 by Perishable
-R e i Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 (I wonder if)It should(would) be possible, I mean we see other players transform into monsters right? It's like that but the sprite is a 3rd job not monsters. --- o.o
Kirou Posted April 24, 2010 Author Report Posted April 24, 2010 I just want to say I did not mean any offence to the staff of fRO. >.< I'm not suggesting in any way that I'm dissatisfied with the work that has been put in to more important things, like bug fixes etc. I really appreciate all of the hard work that has and is being put in. I just didn't think it was difficult to implement such an option, so I saw no harm in making my suggestion. Perhaps the ability to interchange between the sprites would be going too far - I'm ignorant of the inner workings of RO. But as someone mentioned, an alternative job class could technically be possible? I'm not saying that the staff work endless hours to fulfil this at all. Everyone thanks you for the huge amount of labour already done to improve the server. If it is too difficult, then I'm sure everyone can appreciate that. =]
Adamxd Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 If you see 3rd class outfits, are you feelin like smoking ganja or whAt? Are you having orgasms during watching 3rd sprites?if its hard to do it and can cause some troubles for servers forget it and feel satisfied with this patch
Levis Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 As it says: It's just a optional patch. I agree on creating such a NPC, but we should actually be thankful that the Staff organized and implemented these 3rd Class Sprites at least. It's better then having nothing and I guess one should copy the Job Sprites on your Desktop and delete and copy the one's you like. So you feel free to decide how your character looks like.

Dearly Beloved Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 I feel the same way, when it came to mind. Thank you for doing so, what I couldn't do. (:
Wish Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 I also agree that this isn't of utmost importance. Now, if someone with scripting abilities would like to try to make this, test it out, and then send us the script to test, that'd be a different case. I'll leave this open for a bit to see if anyone would like to try.
