Rinn Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) I just want to know why it is that it takes having an Elite or Forsaken Set and/or Donates for anyone on this server to acknowledge your existence enough to at least speak to you or be friends with you. Being new to a server kinda blows when you don't know anyone and it's worse when no one will give you the time of day just because you're new and aren't privileged enough to have a lot of money to donate for high-class equips, so you have to quest for yours (which takes time). All of you with really strong gears who snub "non-geared" newbies need to remember that you were new too and that it's not cool to outcast people just because of that. That's something called classism. So what is it that makes it such a problem to let new people into your circle? What's so wrong about the idea of acceptance? Are you afraid? I was just snubbed by two different guilds just because I don't have an Elite set or donates. I didn't know money = personality or talent. Being stuck on bed-rest with my pregnancy, I can't go out and see my friends, so all I have is my computer. All I want are friends and people to play with and WoE with so I don't go all cabin-fever batshit from lack of socialization. Is that so hard to ask? Edited December 17, 2009 by Rinn
Rayray Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 not all are like that though. well most will be like that, dunno why..
Rinn Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Posted December 17, 2009 Seems like most of those I've run into are. The only ones who haven't been 100% douchebag to me are Gen0cide, two people who I knew from other servers, GM Wish, and now you (at least you answered my post... seems everyone else ignores my posts like I never wrote it). Was it this hard for you when you joined the server?
Terroryst Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 I kind of understand why they would reject you from joining their guild. Since you're undergeared, they could have used your spot to invite somebody with better gears. I don't think they meant any offense personally.
Rinn Posted December 18, 2009 Author Report Posted December 18, 2009 I kind of understand why they would reject you from joining their guild. Since you're undergeared, they could have used your spot to invite somebody with better gears. I don't think they meant any offense personally. What I'm saying here is that I've noticed that even trying to make friends is difficult to do when you don't have anything "special". So I'm "un-geared" for the moment. That doesn't make me any less of a player (again, note I've played for over 5 years and have volumes of experience in RO) and doesn't mean I can't contribute to the guild (item farming, and support during WoE. i.e - FCP, Heal, Traps, other support) and be a good friend to people (chat and keep people company and assist with their questing). So what happens when I DO get nice equips? These people going to come crawling back to me wanting me in their guilds? Why can't people accept new players as they are and help them get accustomed to the server? I've done everything here myself and what I haven't gotten figured out on my own, or by reading all the information posted on the forums and the main site, I've had to ask Wish (who has been gracious enough to answer all my newbtastic questions about your server - which is nice, minus the snobbish attitudes some players have). I can't fathom the idea of anyone - staff or player - being so okay with new players being outcast for not having money to donate.
Terroryst Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Unfortunately, most guild leaders want power in their players, not team friendliness.
Rayray Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 well when I started, it wasn't like that. I remember a few veterans who actually helped me gain items. (well some of those veterans already quit) well some of us still help people, I think Jay does when he isn't busy. W Well to be frank, not only the veterans are sometimes douchebags, but other newbies are like that too. I kinda remember guys in thor and lhz that kill newbies and say noob to you, even though they just started a while ago too. I actually removed all my headgears to look like a newbie and they did that to me too. In essence, a lot of guys are like that, but a few isn't. the problem is it's hard to find those kind of people since most of them are: 1. inactive 2. AFK when you see them 3. too busy with guild related stuff or hunting well if you have any questions regarding items in the server or other things you can pm me In game or in the forums. n______n
Rinn Posted December 18, 2009 Author Report Posted December 18, 2009 Thank you, Calintz ^^ I really appreciate it

I've hunted for you a few times as well myself when I'm on (usually at night or very early morning in -5 GMT) been out for loads of OB/GYN appointments and family sheit lately. I haven't had all the time I wish I did for gaming, with the baby on the way in less than a week. Really, I don't know how incredibly useful I'll be as far as WoE goes unless his daddy wants to put down Guitar Hero and watch the little sprout for all of an hour (God forbid lol I'm sure he would though, he's a sweetie and is really excited to be a daddy). I know for a fact though, I'll be in the hospital for about a week starting Tuesday, so WoE would be a total no-go for me next week should you decide to add me to your guild. I guess the big plus side for me this week as far as the server goes is that I got my char to 255/255 and finally working on the Elite quest (which is a betch +2) o__O!!!... and you have to do it twice?! (to get the 200 stat points AND the Elite Set) OTL... I have lots of work to do~ Whether I get it done before Monday night is up to how bad my insomnia is~ whee~
Nyanko Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Some good reasons why I sometimes snub newer players is; 1) they ask for items 2) they harass me constantly and QQ when I'm offline [epic stalkmode] 3) they don't listen at all 4) they just have a snotty attitude those kinda apply to others too, there's a lot of newbies like that so older players find it annoying.

I don't really fit into that n00b mold... The closest to being a stalker I get is the character class on the game lol. All I wanted since joining early this month was someone to talk to and maybe get a hand with "what is [insert random fRO custom feature here]?". I'd so much rather talk to a player who is a veteran of the server than a GM because I know the GMs are often busy (having been a GM myself, I know) doing work for the server and dealing with trouble/report tickets. However, as I said before, Wish has been a godsend to me from day one. Whatever I couldn't find on the forums or get an answer from a player about, I asked her and she was always glad to help ^^ I wish all the players were that nice. ERIN YOU'RE PREGNANT??????????????? Yes, I am! I'm actually scheduled for a C-Section on Tuesday. I'm having a boy and Jesus Christ on a pogo-stick, he's big (almost 9lbs) ♥ I'm really excited and nervous at the same time >w<
Cirrus Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Ahh Nyanko is right. We probably haven't had the chance to converse but I'm pretty okay with newbies too as long as they ask nicely, and not beg (ugh) and harass you with "leech me plz" "hunt me xxx item plz" and so on. (Like someone yesterday :(. ) Anyway yeah, if you don't fit in with that void (lmao) then you pretty much just met the douches, or well, giving the benefit of the doubt, tabbed, afk'd or busy. As for all players being nice... it's still the real world, crammed into this online game, so we... pretty much get the same people. Lol. Ohh and Jae, it's not the Erin we know! She's new. :)

She's new. :) haha I agree with you using the term "void". I guess I also agree with the fact that glimmering fantasies of a more perfect reality existing online is dumb considering the make-up of the Internet are all the good, bad and ugly of the real world. Meh. As I keep putting myself out there, attempting to talk to people (as shy as I am), and whoring the forums, I'm finding some nicer people, which is a good sign for this server (there really are more people than douche-bag asshats with cattle prods up their arses!) And... yay! That answers my question. I was scrambling to think of who he was and where he knew me from. I suppose there was another Erin here (was it the one with the username rinrin, or... ?). Either way, sorry if there was a misunderstanding resulting from my username O:
Cirrus Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Yaa it's rinrin, her priest is named Rinn so that's probably where the misunderstandings come from. She just inactive. :)
Rinn Posted December 18, 2009 Author Report Posted December 18, 2009 Oh! LOL what a small world. Thank God I don't have a priest here then or there'd definitely be some heads turning x) I use Stalkers, Soul Linkers and Biochemists mostly.
Antagonist Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 (edited) Cirrus is in the same guild as i am and his online most of the time, u can look for him too if im not on n_n and congrats on ur baby, what are you planning to name him? and ur on gmt -5, that would explain why we never meet, Im on GMT +12 lolz Edited December 18, 2009 by Antagonist
Ethereal Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Well I'm not that active lately, but if you manage to find me in game I'll help out. [: But yeah to be honest, sometimes we just ignore people due to Nyanko's reasons: 1) they ask for items 2) they harass me constantly and QQ when I'm offline [epic stalkmode] 3) they don't listen at all 4) they just have a snotty attitude It's just that 9/10 cases many people who come up to me are like that. But yeah, feel free to P.M. me and make sure to say that you're Rinn on the forums or else I'd think it's another creeper. :( I have a lot of extra stuff I don't want. ;p
Devotion Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Well, unfortunately many newcomers give the polite ones a bad rep. I can't remember a time recently where I cold sit in fcity without being asked for some items. The natural thing for many geared players to do is to ignore new people since they almost always get beggars. The way to get around this is to act very differently, catch someone's attention, and your fro social life will take off. Being female helps as well. Oh and be persistent, without spamming or rudeness. Just make your presence known and that you don't want free stuff but that you'd like answers or help or just an actual conversation.

So he'll be Charles Kelly (last name omitted) III. Kind of a family tradition (naming the first-born son after the father). Well, unfortunately many newcomers give the polite ones a bad rep. Well I'm definitely female lol But yeah, what you said actually does make a lot of sense. It's sad that players ignore people for that reason though... although if it really happens all that frequently, I guess I understand.
