Sensation Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Quad core can't be utilized to it's full potential yet, neither does dual core. If you want to buy it for long term, go with the quad core, it'll still take a lot of work load from system processes which makes your whole computer run more smooth. Do get a good GPU and perhaps even an external sound chip, it has it's own processor to take the workload of your own processor, which will only benefit game play.

I use an i7 on my desktop and it runs amazingly fast and an old technology quad on my laptop, it runs amazingly well when multitasking. Very few single programs utilize all 4 cores, using dual core support has become the norm in most modern programs though. PS: Your GPU is what will bottleneck your gaming performance, not your CPU. You should get a decent CPU though.
