Dr. Love Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 I was thinking. Even if we have custom items and such, I think it would attract more players to join the server if we had our own custom classes. I was thinking they should be under the story of ForsakenRo, warriors for both the Forsaken Elites and the Dragoons. So yeah. I thought of these things. Novice > Apprentice The Dragon Apprentice will then choose what side to fight for. Forsaken Elite Side: Apprentice > Samurai Forsaken Dragoon Side: Apprentice > Ronin I already thought of the skills and stuff, problem is that they need custom sprites and icons. So this would be very uhm, workful if there is such a word. I believe that even though this could take a while to be implemented as it requires a lot of work, it would be worthwhile in the end. This would promote ForsakenRO much more and may even get our old players back. I'd prefer if the GMs who respond are those that actually control the gameplay.
gamersrule26 Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 not a bad idea. But the normal jobs are good as they are right now , but it should be good either way
Rayray Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Hmm... I dunno but I do agree it would take a LOT of WORK. sigh...
Hated Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 It would be an interesting thing to have but ... lots of work xD
Sorrow Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 The idea is not bad at all...but there was something funky in the last server i checked that had such feature; *Classes work in a kind of unchangable database that can't be upgraded, only transformed. Meaning; For a new class to be added you have to kick(full edit) one of the previous branches the novice path can go. For exemple, in this one server i saw a custom class, they didn't have Taekwon Boy/Girl, Soul Linkers and Star Gladiators. Anyways...yeah loads of work. For the concepts, roles, skills, programing, spriting and in-game balance with the already existing ones...
Dart Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 The hardest part about this, is making the classes balanced. That's probably the main reason it hasn't been thought about. Balancing a class you created, with every other class out there. All the card combos, equipment pairing, every aspect of the game has to be taken into account, when thinking of a new class. The stat multipliers especially. I think I know the server Sorrow is talking about, they've spent well over 2 years working on their custom class. After those 2 years, they are FAR from any kind of balance. And, you lose as many classes as you put in. There is a set number of 'job spaces' in the database. As far as I know, you can't create new spaces, only edit old ones. To remove entire classes this far into fRO's life, would be a bad move. People would lose characters, and lose items. Just for a new class, that may not even be that great if not properly balanced. Also, with the 3-3 classes coming sometime in the future, you have to somehow balance your custom class with THOSE classes. Without knowing how they work (because we don't have them) how can we balance it? We couldn't. If we could create 'job spaces' in the database, I'd say we push more for it. But considering what would have to be done, in order to get a custom class. I'm going to have to say no. I wish it was more possible, because I enjoy having something new like that, brought into the game. However, with this kind of thing, it wouldn't work out very well. -Rejected-
