Acer is most certainly not a good brand ( from my experience ). If you are looking for a cheap, durable computer then I'd suggest a Toshiba I had one for 2~3 years, dropped it quite a few times, used it for just about everything and it still works perfectly. Plus, they are relatively cheap. I bought my desktop parts from newegg and they have some amazing offers on laptops every few days at around you price range : http://www.newegg.com/

Thanks Genesis. I would also like an opinion on HP though. I am trying to look for a laptop that I can buy in the store, since sometimes I dont trust the internet. I also found a HP laptop about 40 or 50 more than a Toshiba, but it seemed quite a bit better. But, my friend does own a Toshiba and so does my Uncle. Their laptops work great. Im just trying to find something that would try to fit what I want to do with it.

I agree with Genesis, acer is not quite a good brand, i was handling a service team before and we got lot's of complain about it, but with your price and the specs that you mentioned, it would be fine, i suggest you take Dell or HP, based on my experience as an IT it is cheap and reliable too, and to mention Toshiba it is also good but the price is quite expensive compare to HP and Dell, but it is still up to you.

Well, if you describe what you want to use it for and post specs of the laptops I could try and help you. A lot of the time you can get a much better deal online than you can at a store, I know this from experience. Newegg has been around for a while now and is trusted company ( I remember buying parts back in 2001 ) either way, post the specs and the prices.

Sorry if it takes me a while to re-post, my computer gives me a blue screen, then I have to restart the whole thing >.<. Well, I will mostly use it for the internet, gaming, movies, and school work. I also want it to be able to harbor a lot of memory, too, since I do download a lot of stuff (and no NOT PORN >.<). Sorry for the small add-in. It is priced at about $699 like the last laptop. Now to find the specs.

What are you planning on using your laptop for? Just portability or a desktop replacement?

If you're trying to replace your desktop with a notebook, you'll want the HP model you posted. However, a 17" screen is huge when you want to carry it around places.

15.6" is decent. I can't say anything about the Acer brand, but the graphics card that comes with it will cause you some trouble if you're going to be installing some games on it (it'll run RO though).

My first notebook was an HP and I thought it had some great specs and all, but when you do pack all those great things into a notebook, it'll tend to run hot and overheat. Mine died due to overheating, lol.

I own a Toshiba 12.1" notebook. It's great as a mobile computer, but I can't install or run a lot of high-end games or graphics programs due to the Intel graphics card, LOL. SO YEAH.

I have really little knowledge of computers, but that's just my experiences with 'em.

acer?

do NOT buy it

you DO NOT want an acer laptop. it'll be fine for the first few months, after that it'll keep having problems until you get fed up and can't be bothered anymore. first year of mine, motherboard died. second year, it died again. it kept frying chargers (probably spent more on chargers than the laptop itself). right now its shoved in my closet because i cant be assed anymore.

Personally speaking, I own an HP laptop right now.. and I've not had a pleasant experience with their support.

Fair note, I hate Vista with a passion, I also don't like Windows 7 either, so I have no plans on "downgrading" to Vista anytime soon, or Windows 7 (even though it's a step up from Vista). I wanted to "upgrade" to XP since my laptop came with Vista, but HP wouldn't give me the XP drivers, and at the time, I didn't quite know where to search for any. So.. I ditched Vista in a hurry and installed Linux on it. (specifically, Linux Mint) Since then, my laptop has been happily for over a year running Linux, no problems or anything.

So, from my experience, no go with HP. Acer, just no.. NO.... don't bother. Toshiba I've heard is a pretty good brand. Might be a little up in the price probably, but I do somewhat regret that I didn't go with a Toshiba compared to HP. -_- Oh well, my loss.
