Look, I can understand you thinking other guitarists are better, but saying things like "Guthrie can suck it" and rejecting the thought of him having any talent/worth at all is plain immature. You don't hear me saying that Andy McKee or Justin can suck it; I have to respect them, even if I don't think they're the best.
-
Such as? When I'm asked who is the "best guitarist" (as in most talented guitarist), people like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Shawn Lane, Michael Angelo Batio, Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Marco Sfogli and Guthrie Govan come to mind.
-
I love Andy McKee. I also love Justin, BB King, Slash, etc. However, I wouldn't say they're the most talented guitarists, with all due respect. Slash is overrated; he's a rock icon, not a guitar virtuoso. Andy McKee and Justin try new innovative tapping techniques and write nice melodies with them. Very enjoyable to listen to.

OBSCURE GUITARIST WHO DOESNT KNOW HOW TO GAIN A FOLLOWING, HES JUST POSTING POINTLESS VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE HAHAHA I DONT KNOW WHO HE IS SO IM BASHING HIM HAHAHAHA On a serious note, he's pretty good and innovative, but is he the BEST? Not even close.

Personal taste (musical appreciation) varies. You may like or may not like Guthrie Govan. What doesn't vary is the amount of skill he has.
-
Also, another guitarist that I respect very much: Shawn Lane.
-
It seems you don't know the difference between "famous" and "talented". Yeah, I win.
-
lol, they downloaded his shit off iTunes

Family computer, my dad and mom both use it a lot

Does that mean they have an ounce of talent? They don't. What? Guthrie has a lot of underground (non-commercial) success. I quite laughed. It seems you're not aware of the level of technical proficiency he's at. Many people want to see him on G3. I don't know, man. Why isn't An Endless Sporadic nearly as famous? Or Ne Obliviscaris? Both those bands have a lot more talent, yet are next to unknown. It seems you don't know how the music industry works, because by your logic, the Jonas Brothers are more talented than Bach. Being a talented guitarist means you have total freedom with your instrument; you aren't bound by your technical limits. Guthrie is that and more; his songwriting is unparalleled. Do you really think the Jonas Brothers and Panic! at the Disco are talented? If your answer is "yes", I won't even bother replying to your posts anymore. lol

lulz Note: the "Norton FileFront" folder is in fact a porn folder that I keep on my desktop despite it being a family computer

Awesome, but I'm talking about the big boy music industry, not the Panic! at the Disco music industry. He's well-known as an editor in Guitar World Magazine and as a guitar tutor. He's only released his solo album a couple years ago, and it's his first. He isn't posting "his" vids. He's hired by a backing track company to demo their tracks, for fuck's sake. Also, relating talent to fame is pretty much missing the point; I'm pretty sure I have a lot more talent than My Chemical Romance, but hey, I'm not nearly as famous. Have you ever had a customer inquiry about me, Fluxy? Anyway, I don't have a lot of time on my hands, so you'll have to settle for this shit of a post.
-
What condition? You're calling YouTube a following? Holy shit, this is like debating with a monkey. YouTube doesn't mean anything; Steve Vai and Joe Satriani (guitarists who by far exceed Andy Mckee) have a lot less views than him. Believe me, in the real music business, Guthrie is far better known than Andy. I didn't scorn you, I explained why I don't share your views.
-
A sound choice. Michael Angelo is amazing.
-
You called Guthrie Govan an obscure guitarist who posts videos of himself shredding aimlessly to backing tracks on YouTube and who doesn't have and will not have a following because he's missing the point of how to earn a following. I can assure you that 100% of this is complete bullshit, so I grant you the title of ''ignoramus''. As I said, it's all opinion.
-
The first post was ''Guthrie Govan. Discuss.'' Nothing needs to be changed; you're the one who misinterpreted it. What are you talking about? I'm replying to every point made in every post, in case you haven't noticed. Throweth at me and I throweth back. If you're that skeptical, then ''real proof'' doesn't exist. What the fuck are you rambling about? I post an opinion (Guthrie is the best guitarist in the world) and then back it up with various facts. I stated that Joe calling Guthrie an ''amazing guitarist'' is a fact. Not his opinion. Lrn2read And as a side note, Satch's opinion is pretty damn credible, seeing as he is considered himself to be one of the best guitarists alive. A technical virtuoso. If you haven't heard of Joe Satriani, your opinion is pretty much invalid to my eyes as far as guitarists go. Fame speaks to a certain extent. Slipknot? Bullet for my Valentine? lol k

Hardcore comes from punk, which came from rock. Does that make it a subgenre of metal? Is jazz a subgenre of rock? The answer to both of those questions is "no".
-
The topic was originally meant to be a discussion about Guthrie Govan. However, you stated that Slash is the best guitarist in the world, turning this discussion into a debate. Read the aforementioned statement. All the things you mention are moot points, as they don't really prove anything about the musician's proficiency. Your loss, it only makes your argumentation less pertinent. Sorry, but I don't feel like writing up how metal started, what characterizes every metal subgenre, etc. Are you really that stupid? "Slash is the best guitarist in the world." "Guthrie Govan is the best guitarist in the world." Those are opinions. "Guthrie is by no means "obscure", and he isn't the one posting these videos. He was hired by a backing track company to demo their tracks." "Joe Satriani called Guthrie Govan an amazing guitarist." Those are facts that I used to point out Fluxy's ignorant and blatant lies (about Guthrie being "some obscure guitarist" and so forth). Nothing to comment here. I didn't know Psycroptic was signed. I mostly listen to their older stuff and prefer it over the new. And sure, there are exceptions. I'm talking about pop music (a.k.a. MTV music). Yes, I believe saying blatant lies about a guitarist you know nothing about labels you as "ignorant". Also, I told Terminus to "stop being an ignorant prick" or something along those lines because he used Slash's appearance on GH3 as proof of him being the best guitarist in the world. I think he and I both know this isn't a very good argument compared to, for example, saying he's one of the most influential guitarists of rock music. I perhaps didn't word it out correctly, as previously stated, but no, it isn't complete and utter bullshit.
-
Okay. Metal's roots = blues and rock, though.
-
You replied to my topic with something to the effect of Slash being the best guitarist in the world. I named a handful of guitarists who are technically more proficient and who have more freedom on the fretboard. You fail to realize that by contesting my point, you were entering a debate. I called you ignorant because you used the fact that Slash is on Guitar Hero as an argument for him being the best guitarist ever. I think even you realize this is quite a moot point. I know more about metal than you ever will, my friend. It's about personal tastes? NO WAY. I never would have guessed! I applaud you for informing me, because all along, I thought that everything I state is FACT. I pretty much agree. The music industry signs bands based on marketability, not talent. This is why the Jonas Brothers and Avril Lavigne are famous (appealing to the average teenager crowd) while bands like An Endless Sporadic, Behold... the Arctopus, Theory in Practice, Psycroptic, etc. (the list could go on for quite a while) do not become famous, even though they have overflowing amounts of talent.
