XBOX 360 Advice

Hey there,

So this Holiday, I'm planning on finally purchasing an Xbox 360, but I seriously have no idea on what I should/need to buy to go along with it. I'm not really "hardcore" lol, so I don't need a lot of accessories or whatnot, but the wireless controller concerns me as well as all the different models of it (Arcade/Pro/Elite).

So I guess what I'm looking for is some First Buyer's tips and advice in what to buy. I think I'm pretty set on buying the Arcade model. My friend told me the Pro - you just pay for the hard drive.

And any recommendations on a first game? [: (BTW, I REALLY SUCK AT SHOOTERS SO NO PLZ).

get arcade if you're concern with money. you can still pretty much enjoy your 360. just can't' download much.

get pro if you wanna customize your 360; put in music, download demos, store memories, videos, etc.

try out: devil may cry 4, crackdown, phantasy star online universe (if youre willing to pay online to play, a VERY good game), skate(if youre into that), gears of war 1,2, dead or alive, left 4 dead

Just a whole bunch of demos and mini games if you're into free stuff.

Patches take up space as well IIRC. So a HardDrive is always good to have. Seriously.

Lol... what's there to download that I actually NEED?

Add ons, map packs, etc. You do not want the arcade if your smart. I wish I got the elite(I got the pro), because with the new xbox features you can rent a game and install it onto your harddrive, and with a 120 gb hard drive you can install quite a bit of games. And when you get bored of one, and HD full, just delete it. This would truely save money..

Once you get that, a good starter game for me was GTA IV online. You can go on and on and on playing freeplay online. I have no idea when Skate 2 comes out but, I can play skate 1 for some time myself :)

I don't think the renting, then uploading to your hard drive process works. I tested it out by uploading my GTAIV, taking out the disk and trying to play it, and it said I needed the GTAIV game disc. So I wouldn't advise doing that. =/

Yeah, I was thinking of getting GTA IV since it's only like $29.99 used, and I enjoyed Las Santos or w/e well (with cheats of course, haha!).

And can't I just buy like a hard drive? I thought they had those sold separately. I could just pick it up when I need it; aside from HD space, the only difference between the versions is cosmetic right? No different features?

btw, if you live in Canada, Best Buy is having a sale on the 360 =D. Theyre selling a 60gig 360 for 299$ (plus tax) with 4 games. pretty good deal =D but the games suck >.>(kungfu panda, assassin's creed, and two other crapy games.) but its 60gigs =D. for 299$ =D

It really depends on what games you want to play.

You can buy a separate harddrive for your XBox 360, but it's going to cost you a lot of money, and it would be cheaper to just buy it with the system in the Pro package. But if you're not planning on playing a lot of games or downloading a lot of things, then sure, you could go the way of the Arcade... but you'll need some kind of memory unit for saving game progress eventually.

And if you find one someday that there's a game on XBox Live Arcade that you want to download, well, you're pretty boned without a harddrive.

If you're not into shooters, you'll hate Left 4 Dead, and you'll most likely hate Gears of War 1 & 2 as well. I wouldn't even bother playing shooting games on the 360, anyway, I find they are much more fun on the PC. But that's all a matter of opinion!

Yes you can buy the hard drive separately.

Yeah but the 120 HD is what? 120-150 dollars? In the long run getting the elite would be better and, I'm 90% sure when you install the game on your hard drive you don't need the CD, the point is to avoid using it. If I'm wrong, my apologies..

Personally my xbox has replaced my computer gaming.

The type of XboX doesn't really matter that much, depending on how much of a gamer you are. Since your not all that serious about it, you should go with the regular XboX.

And make sure you get a play and charge kit. It'll save you ALOT of batteries.

Oh, and for a first game, the new Prince of Persia is awesome. <3

I did buy one of those play and charge kits! But, it was from Nyko/Niko? since they were out of stock of the Microsoft one, but oh well. Lol. Hope it'll do.
