Most Amazing Guitarist Alive.

Change the first post then.

The first post was ''Guthrie Govan. Discuss.'' Nothing needs to be changed; you're the one who misinterpreted it.

Your arguement itself has no pertiency if you continually go off-topic from Guthrie alone to generally saying this is a debate and separating yourself to other topics (such as pop music).

What are you talking about? I'm replying to every point made in every post, in case you haven't noticed.

Throweth at me and I throweth back.

Everyone can Wikipedia or Google. Real proof? I don't think so.

If you're that skeptical, then ''real proof'' doesn't exist.

If what you said is true as an opinion, then this entire topic is an opinion, not a fact. Thus, almost all your posts are opinions as well.

What the fuck are you rambling about? I post an opinion (Guthrie is the best guitarist in the world) and then back it up with various facts.

Also, "Joe Satriani called Guthrie Govan an amazing guitarist". Yeah, sure, you can ask many musicians saying that so and so is an amazing guitarist. You can probably even get Joe Satriani to say Slash is an amazing guitarist. I can even say Slash is an amazing guitarist. Dude, that's Joe Satriani's opinion, it's not a fact.

I stated that Joe calling Guthrie an ''amazing guitarist'' is a fact. Not his opinion.

Lrn2read

And as a side note, Satch's opinion is pretty damn credible, seeing as he is considered himself to be one of the best guitarists alive. A technical virtuoso.

Furthermore, quit using "used Slash's appearance on GH3 as proof of him being the best guitarist in the world" as a way to single my arguement. I used Guitar Hero as an example, not as the example. I also said that he made songs that are loved for decades, and I've never heard of Joe Satriani. Fame speaks a bit still, at least in the metal industry.

If you haven't heard of Joe Satriani, your opinion is pretty much invalid to my eyes as far as guitarists go.

Fame speaks to a certain extent. Slipknot? Bullet for my Valentine? lol

"You are somewhat wrong in that sense. It's probably your wording but I get what you're saying. If I go by that logic, then wouldn't that mean that ALL bands that are signed are suposingly not talented? Does that mean Psycroptic is not talented? They are signed. Atleast, that's what it said on their myspace. Still, all bands that are signed are noted on marketability and their music. If they sell, that means they are probably good or can appeal to a certain group of people. Take Slayer for example; they are good, play good music, and sells. They have talent. "

I can reuse this since you only took out one part that contradicted your statement. The rest is still a fighting arguement.

What'd I lie about?

You called Guthrie Govan an obscure guitarist who posts videos of himself shredding aimlessly to backing tracks on YouTube and who doesn't have and will not have a following because he's missing the point of how to earn a following. I can assure you that 100% of this is complete bullshit, so I grant you the title of ''ignoramus''.

Define to me.. Being the most amazing guitarist in the world? You seem so assured and confident on your basis that it's near impossible for others to have an opinion. Maybe you should stop being so arrogant and selfish and take into account that some people have different opinions to you and you need to respect that.

As I said, it's all opinion.

Oh yeah, I admore Michael Angelo's talents too :)

A sound choice. Michael Angelo is amazing.

On that matter, his channel has say around 2 million views in total. Okay cool, now look at say Andy Mckee. 16 million views from ONE song, followed by another 7million on two other songs and many more. Total: 42million views.

Yet Guthrie is the one who knows how to earn a following and is THE most amazing guitarist? It really doesn't make any sense.

As I said, it's all opinion.

And you scorned me for my opinion. FOAD.

Lol, sorry for the typo and yeah eventhough he has this condition :)

You're calling YouTube a following? Holy shit, this is like debating with a monkey. YouTube doesn't mean anything; Steve Vai and Joe Satriani (guitarists who by far exceed Andy Mckee) have a lot less views than him.

Believe me, in the real music business, Guthrie is far better known than Andy.

And you scorned me for my opinion. FOAD.

I didn't scorn you, I explained why I don't share your views.

No he isn't. In fact I work in a record store. Never heard of the man before this topic. And I've known Andy Mckee since I was like 15 years old.

EDIT: Guthrie doesn't even show up on our database. And if he's "well known" and as "successful" as you say he is then WTF? Never even had a customer inquiry about him and we're one of the busiest stores in my area.

Your just contradicting yourself now when you say that youtube isn't a following.

Yeah, because he's posting vids on youtube and getting nowhere. However, Andy Mckee for example,is now sponsored and getting quite famous in the community. Therefore he knows how to earn a following. And earning a following is essential in becoming a well known and "Amazing" guitarist. Something Guthrie will never be. I bet you 10 bucks =)

Awesome, but I'm talking about the big boy music industry, not the Panic! at the Disco music industry.

He's well-known as an editor in Guitar World Magazine and as a guitar tutor. He's only released his solo album a couple years ago, and it's his first.

He isn't posting "his" vids. He's hired by a backing track company to demo their tracks, for fuck's sake. Also, relating talent to fame is pretty much missing the point; I'm pretty sure I have a lot more talent than My Chemical Romance, but hey, I'm not nearly as famous. Have you ever had a customer inquiry about me, Fluxy?

Anyway, I don't have a lot of time on my hands, so you'll have to settle for this shit of a post.

Are you fucking serious? Panic at the disco would make more money playing a week of gigs blindfolded than you would in your entire life, fool.

And at the rate it's going, it will be his last.

Regardless of whether his posting his own vids or not, he still doesn't have talent to compare to some of the guitarist I've known in my lifetime. If you did have more talent than My Chemical Romance, then why the fuck aren't you nearly as famous? My Chem. obviously knew how to arouse an audience and my god did they take advantage of it. If they didn't, they wouldn't be where they are today. I've said it 100000 times now, but I'll say it again.

Talent is more than being super crazy on a fretboard. Talent is knowing how to get the reaction you want from an audience. Why else would you pick up a guitar? You want to impress people, don't you? I know that's why I picked up my guitar.

Anyway, I don't have a lot of time on my hands, so you'll have to settle for this shit of a post.

Damn right it was a shit of a post. Good riddance.

Does that mean they have an ounce of talent? They don't.

What? Guthrie has a lot of underground (non-commercial) success.

Regardless of whether his posting his own vids or not, he still doesn't have talent to compare to some of the guitarist I've known in my lifetime.

I quite laughed. It seems you're not aware of the level of technical proficiency he's at. Many people want to see him on G3.

I don't know, man. Why isn't An Endless Sporadic nearly as famous? Or Ne Obliviscaris? Both those bands have a lot more talent, yet are next to unknown. It seems you don't know how the music industry works, because by your logic, the Jonas Brothers are more talented than Bach.

Being a talented guitarist means you have total freedom with your instrument; you aren't bound by your technical limits. Guthrie is that and more; his songwriting is unparalleled.

Do you really think the Jonas Brothers and Panic! at the Disco are talented? If your answer is "yes", I won't even bother replying to your posts anymore.

Damn right it was a shit of a post. Good riddance.

Ok, mistook the info from a friend lol, he said that MA was autistic, but yeah no records about it. Lol. Still Michael Angelo Batio is a total shredder!! \m/

FFS. This is worse than an argument with a fucking brick wall. I give up, you win.

I'm not much into music and who's famous/talented,but Guthrie isn't that good. All I see is shredding,he plays with his fingers, not with his soul. Sucks to my ears IMO.

Personal taste (musical appreciation) varies. You may like or may not like Guthrie Govan.

What doesn't vary is the amount of skill he has.

Alright, most amazing guitarist alive BASED ON TALENT:

Justin King

Guthrie can suck it

OBSCURE GUITARIST WHO DOESNT KNOW HOW TO GAIN A FOLLOWING, HES JUST POSTING POINTLESS VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE HAHAHA

I DONT KNOW WHO HE IS SO IM BASHING HIM HAHAHAHA

On a serious note, he's pretty good and innovative, but is he the BEST? Not even close.

Posted

OK, that Justin guy is of a totally DIFFERENT!! genre and i believe they share talents differently..They are not to be compared because they roughly play different styles and i saw the other videos of Justin that is merely not falling to Guthrie's style..Justin, yes, he is innovative and plays the keys well although i don't like the low keys that he does..so yeah, that's falls to your taste so we can't really compare guitar players here, we'll just have to respect our "IMOs" because we understand that for us they are the best. I love Guthrie as well as any genre he plays.

I love these.

Hmm, i'm not really into the "how fast you can shred or pull off scales but rather on the feel that you give off when you play the guitar."
