Anything I slashed through is not a band. They are artists or a symphony. A person's name does not equal a band. A band is shown by their entire group, not one person's name. Also, all of these "underground bands" you say, I've pretty much heard of them all. Its actually not a big list. AC/DC Aerosmith Alice Cooper Arch Enemy As I Lay Dying Behemoth Black Sabbath Black Widow Blue Cheer Blue Öyster Cult Cream Children of Bodom Chimaira Coal Chamber Cryptopsy Deadstar Assembly Deep Purple Devildriver Disarmonia Mundi Dope Drowning Pool Fleshgrind Hypocrisy Imperanon Iron Maiden Judas Priest Kiss Led Zeppelin Lucifer's Friend Metallica Montrose Motörhead Mountain Pentagram Queen Rainbow Rob Zombie Rush Scorpions Slipknot Slayer Soilwork Staind Stone Sour The Black Dahlia Murder Tenacious D... Maybe Thyrfing UFO Van Halen There are more to list but I'm tired. So I'll post more tomorrow.

MikE~XII Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 I love the songs made by smash mouth its a band right?
Terminus Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 P.S. two are not technically a "band" but get over it. They PLAY with bands. And symphonies not being bands? lol Symphonies are orchestras.
Terminus Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 Symphonies do not imply specific form and are generally or simply a musical composition. A "band," formally, is a company or ensemble of musicians. An "orchestra" is an instrumental ensemble. Please tell me the difference. I think you are assuming that "symphonies" are not "bands" because you see names of composers, which yes, are not technically bands. There is a difference between symphonies and composers, though. The composer writes the symphony. I could say one of my favorite bands is the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra, but it would be different to say that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is my favorite "band." Nice try tho. P.S. TY for the refreshment on the rules Reborn. I appreciate it ^_____________________________________________________________^ Bands create music generally through vocal and/or instrumental forms. Bands go for by names for a general whole for an entire group that depicts their music through the choice of the words. Usually bands consist of a bass, and drums. Mainly, in bands, they do not contain a lot of members in their group. Usually, the minimum is 2 members. The maximum isn't written in stone, but I'd say it would be around 25 as max (which would be extremely rare). On the other hand, symphonies generally use a hierarchical pitch that creates a piece of music using four movements with the sonata form. Symphonies usually contribute to music of lighter degrees that have a lighter tone than mainstream music, and symphonies usually do not have vocalists. If I can conclude this, symphonies can't be bands, but bands can be symphonies (if you go by the "instrumental" definition). Out of topic but, did you use Wikipedia?
Terminus Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 That (for a specific definition) and knowledge of general music theory and elements. Band class and an always unsatiated need for new music and music related literature have not disappointed me. BUT, at the same time, if one were to say I were an expert on the subject , well, that would be wrong, but to say I know less than most people do about music would also be wrong. Should I be offended that you point out that I use Wikipedia to back up my ideas? Wikipedia is my source of vitality and youth! I was just pointing out that you didn't display the knowledge of the difference between a symphony and a composer, or that (since I am sure you do, in fact, know, since you seem to have plentiful and/or boundless knowledge on the subject at hand) you simply needed it pointed out to you for your argument to gain the validity it seemed you want/need for being "smarter" (and certainly more pretentious) than the rest of us. n____n; I'll throw in some things that are on topic, a few more bands (and if I have labeled them wrong, do not care to correct me, for I certainly do not) that I thorougly enjoy: Simon & Garfunkel Sigur Ros Rio en Medio Beirut Built to Spill You sure about that? Oh and, this is definitly off-topic but, your first 'sentence' doesn't make sense. It's not just a fragment. Also, Wikipedia is an uncredited source; it can be changed by anyone. Although most of it should be true, one could easily change information on it by saying "ORCHESTRAS ARE NOT BANDS". Oh, and please, look who's trying to gain the validity of being smarter. I was trying to point out something that bothered me. I hate it when people say certain groups are bands when they are indeed not. It's the love of evil in me that breathes what I say. Oh! I almost forgot! Why did you change the topic now? Weren't we just talking about how bands and orchestras are different? Unless, you accept the fact I am correct (Yes, I do have a bit of a superiority complex).
