Theme: Bleach!

Welcome to the voting thread of the 45th SOTW!
When voting in the SOTW, we will be expecting you to fully understand the rules.
Don't know the rules? Click Here
Have you seen the sources? If not, Here

Rules that the voter must understand:

*Voters must have at least a post count of 10 in order to vote.
*Contestants are not allowed to vote for themselves, but are now allowed to vote in the SOTW.
*Judges' signature grades will be doubled (e.g., if a judge gives 10, it would count as 20).
*Non-judge points will count for full credit.
*Each voter must fill out at least one rubric for the entry of their choice.
*Each entry must have at least 2-3 GOOD sentences in addition to the rubric.
* Signatures will be based on a point-basis.

Voting Rubric:

Rate each of the following categories from 1 to 5, with 5 being 'excellent' and 1 being 'ok/decent'...

*Creativity - how creative the signature is.
*Technical - how challenging the attempted idea.
*Execution- how the idea is put together and how successful it is.
*Aesthetic- how visually pleasing the signature is, regardless of how complex it may be.

Include the total points.

Must include 2-3 sentences discussing the over-all reason why you're casting a vote for the signature.
Try to think in terms of the categories above, but you're free to discuss other elements as well.
(Note: you only have to do this once.)

and they do not provide legitimate reasons for their vote, it will not be counted.

Note:SlingerzDeluxez your entry was disqualified as for the only changes i could see to the original image were text based,im sorry. Edited by Seraphine

Signatures disqualified;

nines signature:

Disqualified as no sources were provided, due to 1 of them being deleted isn't an excuse im sorry.

Meka Meka's Signature:

Disqualified because the only change was made to the text, the image and hearts were not made by the participant, therefore it isn't enough to claim it as your own work,im sorry.

-Hue/Saturation changed on hearts. Placement/size/layering also changed.

I don't quite get this because it was used as a design element, no different than any other signature. I believe the rules state that you cannot draw your own elements, and that has not been done. All signatures appropriate some work of art that is not their own, correct? Please explain?

The only things i see changed on your signature are the text, combination of the 2 images,hue/saturation on the hearts is hardly noticeable . What im getting at is i don't see enough changed from the original image, and the clipart to call it your "own" signature,im sorry.

I never called the clipart my 'own' I'm citing it as a source. Are you saying that masking of images and layering them is not enough to qualify as a new work of art? Because that is essentially what every other contestant did. Are you saying that text arrangement/typography doesn't count count for effort/creativity? It's not as if I have just slapped these together in Microsoft Word. Sure i have not placed a dodge or screen effect, but to imply there wasn't any effort here or that I've done anything different than any other contestant is unfair.

Plagiarism is defined as a "wrongful appropriation," "close imitation" of ideas and expressions. I don't think any of the original artists of my sources had the intention of creating a forum signature. As I'm sure you're familiar with Bleach, you would know Inoue Orihime typically has an orange color theme. Am I wrong to match what her color theme is?

I could name the exact steps taken to create every other signature here, if not a very similar avenue. For the sake of good sportsmanship I will not, but I can tell you I spent several hours on my signature getting every detail just right and have at least cited all my sources.

I don't think you understand... You simply took 2 images, changed the Hue of one, and typed in text. None of the other contestants did that. Sure, you can't draw your entire signature, but you can definitely use your skills in Photoshop/etc. to create your very own background or radical changes to the stock. That is what Haruka, Muffin Master, AND Elaice did. Haruka and Elaice took a simple stock and gave it an extremely complex background. Muffin Master took a page from the manga and colored it on her own on top of creating a new background.

What Seraphine is getting at is that, simply changing some Hue's and layering 2 pictures isn't enough to make your signature look like you made it. You can do more than what you did do. For example, you could have made the hearts on your own. You could have written the text on your own. You could have done a lot of things.

Past judges haven't enforced the rules of SOTW much more than the voting. We're really starting to crack down on those rules. We're sorry for the inconvenience, but that is the final decision for your signature this week.

I guess i'll go ahead and vote.

My vote definitely goes to Muffin Master the colors are simply amazing and add such a brilliant effect when you look at the signature as a whole, along with the Japanese wording makes this signature stand out the most for me.

Wrong. Out of respect for Seraphine I'm ending my discussion openly.

Also I'd like to cast my vote if I can:

My vote goes to Elaice. It's a lovely render of two interesting characters from the series, and the execution with the background is simple yet effective/evocative. It gives the feeling of a warm/romantic summer night under the stars, timely for the season. The text is simple and provides a nice negative space when it touches the edge. If I didn't know who the characters were, I'd still enjoy this as a personal sig.

This is my first time voting so I hope this is valid >_<

My vote goes to Muffin Master, I was amazed and love the way he colored the black and white character, the background gives the signature a crispy look and the text which makes the signature look awesome and was made by a professional/an expert graphic artist.

I lol'd.

Suggestion: If the render came from a paid site, the contestant must at least give a screenshot of the link and of the picture with weird stuff on it to prevent rips. (basically you need to capture your whole screen.)

edit2:

meh.

Please let's get into topic, this is about voting for this weeks SOTW winner, not about who did the right thing or who didn't... Our Judges just gave their opinion and judgement on what signatures applied and met the requirements to participate.

You can take the discussion to PMs.

Any post from now on not concerning to voting for the signature will get deleted and the person will get their Warn status increased... You have been warned.

Behold! i shall cast a vote! LOL

This vote goes for Muffin Master for making such a vibrant work out of what once was colorless. The colors really stand out on this one and being them her creation from the ones used to fill the character's lineart to the background, makes it so almost full credit of the work belonging to her. i really do know how hard it is to make line art with a blank background become colorable, and she did it flawlessly, which really is a big plus to her entry. Being an anime based entry, the Kanjis used as the writting part that was required, really diversificates a lot from the other entries(not that any of them are bad; its just a matter of personal taste, i really do find japanese writing to be an art of its own).

And once again the composition of the background is very well made and smooth.
