Xtopher Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 So its about finals time and I don't know about the rest of you but I can't study to music with words or lyrics... it's distracting. Thus, this topic is about orchestral/instrumental works. Give me your favorites. I'll start off with two of mine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vl5McGN2L-E The longer the better.

Xtopher Posted April 21, 2011 Author Report Posted April 21, 2011 Really Fro? One reply and its the same song I posted? I guess the Mozart effect is dead.
Justice Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 Through out my years playing in an orchestra, I've come to know quite a few neat pieces. Let me see what I can find... Oh here's one: I played that with my school orchestra just last year. The other movements are really neat too. You should look them up. I do really like this one... This one isn't old. But it is my favorite Celtic/Rock song. Last of the Wilds by Nightwish.
Xtopher Posted April 21, 2011 Author Report Posted April 21, 2011 Thanks Justice! The first piece sounds like sailing music to me for some reason, I like it. Of course Bach goes without saying haha. I really like Celtic music when people aren't singing. Lets face it... they could make beautiful music but couldn't really sing to save their lives (especially the Irish, with the exception of Bono). I always wished that I had learned to play an instrument, I'm envious. I would love to play the violin in particular... like this guy: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7r9yQG9PO8
Meka Meka Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 (edited) DANGIT accidentally deleted my post: I love game music: Yoko Shimomura - Drammatica Loved the Final Fantasy XIII soundtrack even tho the game sucked. Best new square composer. My favorite classical composers are probably Paganini, Rachmaninoff and Bach My favorite contemporary composers (besides those listed above) are John Barry and Hans Zimmer (everyone copies Hans lol, who was influenced by John Barry imo). I also like Cyril Morin. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpFXcMOEuo4 http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBU7-LX7ZHg Edited April 21, 2011 by Meka Meka

I didn't think about that too much. The other movements for St. Paul's are very different compared to that one. The last movement, though, has some very familiar themes in it. ;3 Celtic is one of my favorites for sure. I wish there was more music for me to play celtic-wise as a cello. Sometimes in orchestra, I trade instruments with a viola or a violin. Those things hurt my shoulder! xD; I'm not cut out for those strings. I'm better off with my cello. You should try a string instrument! It's never too late to learn. DANGIT accidentally deleted my post: I love game music: Loved the even tho the game sucked. Best new square composer. I'm very sad he retired.

Me too (that he retired from Square) he inspired the whole industry. He's still making music tho, and attends his orchestra concerts! I got to see him live for Distant Worlds! Wish I could have seen Yoko live, but that was several years ago in Europe.
