Terroryst Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 P90X is mainly for weightlifting and building muscle mass, so it's pretty slow-paced. I like Insanity because it's more activity, more moving around, but it's more on the cardio side and mainly for toning your body. Going back to the injury discussion, I've seen my friend injure his back and have to go to the doctor's and physical therapy just from squats, so I've ruled both squats and deadlifts from my workouts. there are a lot of alternatives that work out the same muscle groups anyways. So far, I've only injured my hips with hip pointers, but that was because of my own mistake that I know of now. @David - I didn't know you could do 1 arm chin-ups... You're stronger than me, man! Although I don't do chin-ups, I do pull-ups so I don't know how that would go with one arm.
Xtopher Posted July 12, 2010 Author Report Posted July 12, 2010 I think P90X and Insanity both depend on how much muscle mass you have to begin with. I've seen guys that were really skinny do P90X for 90 days and are still skinny, just more toned... Insanity looks fun too but most people say try P90X first. Hurting yourself and putting yourself out of exercising/working out is really not worth it. The only thing I push myself to near failure on is chest (Bench/Incline/Decline) and I only do this with a spotter. One arm pull-ups are a great accomplishment. I'm working really hard for them. All those guys the the gym pressing 250-350 looking like bad asses and most of them can't do a set of 8 pull-ups if any at all. I just want to be able to walk in and beast a couple sets of one arms to make ppl gawk haha. One arm pull-downs is a good way to get there... You'll need to be able to do about 110-120% your bodyweight with one arm pull downs to do real one arm free hanging pull-ups (My estimation). You'll feel like a champ when you walk over to the pull-down machine and beast the weight someone was doing with two arms... trust me it feels good lol.
Terroryst Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 I tried P90X, and gained some mass but I figured that mass isn't the look that I wanted. I have a more light frame built for quickness, so Insanity appealed more to me when we did it in school because it was more movement. I only maxed out on the bench too because my spot was like two times the size of me and I felt safe with him spotting me lol. Me being nearly the smallest kid in the weight room and benching as much as the bigger kids made them stare hahah Yeah I know what you mean hahah a big kid in my school can bench like 305, but when it came to pull ups he couldn't get 2. Of course me being an a-hole, I did my set right after he did his. But to even further be an a-hole, I had 20 pounds hanging from my neck with a chain and pumped out 10 fast ones. My main problem with pull-ups/pulldowns is the balance. I have trouble keeping balance and wobble everywhere whenever I do them.
Annie Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 i have a fast metabolism, i dont rly need to work out ^________^

I see the occasional big guy do some pull-ups and I tend to make them look bad... Btw chaining the weight to your neck is a bit dangerous... Use a weight belt and chain them to your back/hips... But they make me look bad when they bench like 3 of me... so I guess it's all fair. If you lose balance work on your grip. Make sure your hands/grips are symmetrical and practice the form with lower weight a bit. Wobbling can lead to hurting yourself or making yourself look like a fool lolz. The gym I use has mirrors in front of you so it's easier for me to work on form and symmetry.

Oh snap I didn't even think of that haha that would've been much smarter! I just have balance issues overall, that's why I'm pretty bad at snowboarding hahah. I had mirrors in my gym too, but I guess it was the way I did my pull-ups or something but when I go up I start going forward too and eventually I start swinging so much that I have to hang there until I stop. That's only sometimes though
Damnascus Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Issue about pull-ups is that if you have a bigger frame, you're heavier to pick up.
Terroryst Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Not entirely true since muscles are supposed to be in proportion to your body. It all comes down to if they practice it or not. And since a lot of males are more into weightlifting, they rule out pull-ups/chin-ups, and do lat pulldowns and other workouts.

Regardless of the practice, it's still more difficult for someone with more body mass (muscle) to do pull-ups.
Terroryst Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Maybe, but my 185 friend that I work out with can pop 20 out pretty easy.
Xtopher Posted July 12, 2010 Author Report Posted July 12, 2010 20 pullups/chinups without touching the ground at all and with no aids is a perfect 100 on the US Marine upper body test I believe. Logically the heavier you are the harder it will be to do IF you don't develop the skill a long with all your other weight/muscle... If you get big then decide to try them it will be rough... but there are 50+ year olds that weigh 230+ that can crank out pullups.....

Xtopher Posted July 15, 2010 Author Report Posted July 15, 2010 So I found a friend who can give me P90X for free, I just have to get some blank dvds for him to make copies, so I'm excited for that... Saved me like $120. I'll start it late next month and try to remember to tell you guys how it goes. New thing I'm looking at and curious about... Does anyone have any experience with Cellucor products? Thought I'd talk a bit about my diet because exercise doesn't do much if you have a poor diet! For breakfast I generally eat 2-3 eggs in the morning. Sometimes I make an egg and tomato sandwich with Arnold Thins. Lunch is usually either a grilled chicken breast salad, tuna, or turkey burgers. Dinner varies... I almost always eat turkey or chicken.. I barely ever eat red meat and haven't had any pork in months. I work out at about 10:30am everyday. I have a gatorade protein bar before (Oatmeal Raisin), they're pretty good. With the bar I drink a serving and a half of Jack3d mixed with Powerade (Jack3d tastes horrible in water). Jack3d is an "ATP augmenter"... basically it's a stimulant that gets me pumped and excited to work out before hand. My workouts have been much better since I started drinking it. After workouts I drink my a whey protein shake (French vanilla or vanilla ice cream flavor) the powder is from Optimum Nutrition. I mix it with skim milk and it's pretty good. I drink another one of these with a half serving of protein just before bed (You're body is still building at night so it helps). It would be better to use Casine but I don't want to buy it.
Terroryst Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 Isn't Cellucor just creatin with some other shit?
Xtopher Posted July 15, 2010 Author Report Posted July 15, 2010 They make a couple different products. They all do different things... Just wondering if anyone had any experience with the brand.
Terroryst Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 My friend used it I think, gained like 20 pounds but he still works out, so I don't fully know the effect of what happens when you stop working out after you take it.
Xtopher Posted July 16, 2010 Author Report Posted July 16, 2010 I looked into it more. I'm not going to be taking any of their products... A lot of them are hormone based and I REALLY don't want to mess with my body hormones. I'm 21... the last thing I need is more testosterone lmao. There's also A LOT of warning labels on their products and you have to use multiple products at once, what they call "stacking", to get results. I'm currently looking for something to cut about 3% or of my body fat out... I wanna make my abs look a little bit better and honestly I don't have enough time to do more cardio... I'm about 9% body fat atm...
Terroryst Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Insaaaaaaaanity. I need more fat to be honest, I only have like 6% last I checked lol.
Xtopher Posted July 16, 2010 Author Report Posted July 16, 2010 6% is just above what you need to have. You need to have about 4-5% (for men)... I want to get down to 5% then go back up to just about 6-7% I don't want to start Insanity/P90X until next month though... I believe 6-10% is considered "Athletic" or you're just really skinny/boney lol.
Terroryst Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 5% is unhealthy isn't it? Either unhealthy or incredibly ripped.
Xtopher Posted July 16, 2010 Author Report Posted July 16, 2010 I consider it unhealthy at 4 and under... I want to get to 5% just to see it really... But yea you'd either be starving or ripped lol
Xtopher Posted July 19, 2010 Author Report Posted July 19, 2010 I have no bodyfat, it's why i dont float. q_q Yea I don't float so well either... I'm going up on all my weights this week.... Wew! So Sunday is my day of recovery and every Sunday evening I get excited to work out Monday... Then Monday after my workout I feel like I'm going to die... It's a weird cycle.
