Graffiti is known for it vandalism. Yeah it's an art form, but why do you think they call it graffiti, because of the way it is used. graffiti is like an adjective. Others see it as vandalism, others take time to actually look at their work and respect it. Graffiti is art, theres no arguing that. But its mainly tagging and all of that stuff, weird looking words, something where the artists puts it down on something whether it be a wall or paper, they hope for someone who respects graffiti and wont judge them. Graffiti is mostly looked down upon because where it usually takes place, the walls. Theres my elaboration.

Sorry guys I am cranky, I'll have to admit. And I'm not even PMsing :S. Thank you to Pat and to Jordan, your talk with me in game really stuck and I appreciate it. It may just be SOTW but I am still a real artist who finds it frustrating when ignorant (imo) opinions are thrown out.

Et merci Juan.

This thread is lol, no offense. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, so please.

I vote for [3].

While [6] is done wonderfully it just isn't my take for "graffiti" especially after seeing some pictures of graffiti, courtesy of my friend. Even if [3] is done simply it has much impact for me, as someone has said, a "classic" feel, though it could have been a bit lighter in parts. What comes to mind for me is the graffiti artist is depicting his way of life, or the path he follows, and it's what I can imagine seeing walking through a dark alley and looking at the side of a building or something.

Btw Skyerine's work is so cute. ^_^

Yes please. Cut out the fighting and just have a good time. Really, graffiti has MANY definitions. It a stylistic type of text (not always on wall, could be on paper, the ground, etc.), it's a kind of vandilism, it could be pictures, and it's also considered a type of artifact.

So, com'on, let's all be good sports.

My vote is for Emy [6]. I love the creativity here. It's so simple, yet so lovely. A wonderul combination of unusual text and striking art. And it's one of the few with out a wall in the background. I like that difference, it just says to me "Hey! I'm graffiti! Who said I had to be on a wall?" Well done Emy.

I vote for Entry # 6 because it not only portrays Graffiti very well in it's appearance and presentation, entailing not only the freestyle methods of writing text which usually are a bit skewed and incorporate a design within them (which this entry does very well, as it can clearly be seen from the structure and appearance of the letters), but it also is highly creative and detailed and shows the artist's dedication for their work of art. That dedication and attention to detail is very important in the portrayal of Graffiti in my opinion.

This is because, while it is true that some people use and view Graffiti as a form of vandalism, when associated to true art, the artist, I believe, demonstrates their creativity and love for their art work and thus reflect it in their work. Graffiti, as an art form, is an expression of one's artistic side that is expressed in this way because usually there has been no other method in which to express it in, and is usually detailed and is more than just words scribbled in an odd manner. So I like Emy's incorporation of the wings and halo in place of the dot over the 'i', because it's not just simply a name, but painting of image for the viewer to imagine when viewing her name. Incorporating an Angel with her name, and doing so in a very detailed manner.

It is that actual detail that, to me, makes this entry stand out above the rest, and that it actually was drawn out with the artist's own hand. The shading on the wings and letters is remarkable. The glitter off the halo, wings, and

letters is well done and placed very well. It actually LOOKS like it's shining. The attention to detail and amazing coloring, all being done by hand, is just overwhelmingly EPIC in my opinion. While it is true that Entry # 3 represents the vandalism aspect of Graffiti more accurately, being done with a stack back ground and computerized text, while modified, can't be compared to the detail and form of expression which 6 portrays, which deviates from vandalism very well and thus is more of artistic and less tactful in my own opinion.

Wow, such a bloody topic. o_o

To be honest, this is really hard to decide...So many of the entries captured the different sides and essences of graffiti...However, in the end, despite the issues on all sides (>_>), I'm giving my vote to [ 6 ] Emy.

Here are my thoughts:

[ 1 ] The overall look to this signature is pleasing to the eyes. I do like the composition. However, the multiple fonts that, for me, aren't in the "graffiti" style kind of deter me. The colors flow well, though, and everything blends well.

[ 2 ] I like the wolf in this one, and I like that BlackWolf put herself into this, which is what graffiti does. It expresses the graffitier. Again, I like the colors in this signature. Personally, I have a bit of trouble reading the text, and it feels like it's missing...something. It feels like the presentation is conflicting with what she tried to accomplish...like it's too neat while trying to be a bit scattered. I don't know how accurate that is, but that's how it feels to me.

[ 3 ] I like this one the most for the "wall graffiti" feeling. I do with that the lettering stood out a bit more, because it's fading conflicts with the lighting on the wall, in my opinion. I guess that the paint running down also bugs me a little bit, for the reason that, with the grafiti around where I live, the graffitiers don't allow the paint to run. They take too much pride in their work to let it run. That's just where I live, with my experiences. I'm not saying that other places don't let paint run in their graffiti. It just feels...off...to me. Sorry, I don't know how to describe it. D= I guess it's just what you're raised around.

[ 4 ] This one made me laugh a bit. Honestly, scribble always made me think of graffiti as well. Points for creativity and humor. To me, though, it didn't represent graffiti as well as the others, but I do love the thinking outside the box!

[ 5 ] This signature also made me laugh. I do like it, but again, it just doesn't do graffiti for me. It reminds me more of children's chalk drawings. I'm not trying to give offense with that, it just doesn't hit the style for me. It's cute, though.

[ 6 ] Ok. I voted for this one for a few reasons. One, like Pat, it really hit the graffiti style for me. However, so did a few of the other entries. In my opinion, the pure black background really makes the graffiti pop. Also, seeing as this is signature of the week, this is the one I could see most easily as a signature. I have seen graffiti this stylized. Graffiti is an artform, especially to those who actively put their mark everywhere, and to me, it feels like Emy gave the style the most...dignity? Can't think of the word right now, sorry. I guess the colors could have been dimmed a bit, but at the same time, that wouldn't let it pop like it does. I can imagine this in real life on a building with ease, and I don't think it would harm the beauty of it.

Congrats to everyone, though! I think this has been the best SOTW for entries. It was hard to make a decision, and to be honest, I wish we could vote for 3 or 4 people...or 6. I know that wouldn't help, but I feel that the participants really outdid themselves this time. xD Everyone should feel proud about their work. :3

Last minute vote, jajaja.

I had a debate between [3] and [6].

But, I'm voting for number 3.

Why?

Because it feels like there is a story behind the signature submitted. It's not just something random drawn on a wall but the feel it gives seems like someone drew it there for a reason. It reflects what graffiti feels like to me.

FYI to everyone, this is a Signature of the Week, not a drawing of the week. From what I've been getting from a few of the votes is that drawings far exceed digital designs. If you want a drawing of the week, make the competition yourself.

Anyways, my vote's for #5, Skyerine. I just love its cutesyness overall. To me, graffiti is expressing your creative freedom and it doesn't even have to be letters that are similar to Emy's drawing, for example. It appeals to my eye so much, I just can't keep my eyes off of it. Graffiti is like doodling what you feel and whatever comes to you rmind, and I think this entry embraces it. The touch of Marrilyn Monroe (I think I got the right person) adds the touch of sophistication to the entry, which I love. The bunnies are a bonus for me.

Ray and John...why so Boss...

So if I had to vote...and I sort of do and sort of don't, I say the one that gave me the most pleasant reaction was tg's. First of all that idea was right in front of all our faces, for the fact that this is an RO forum and the Stalker's skill is so well known and well abused ;P Nice touch with the fro soldier. Maybe a little too simple? But sometimes that's the best way to go. Good effort on trying to give it a border, or it would have just been a cropped ss. On a more serious note it's quite satirical in that it mentions the signature; like the work knows it's being posted for a competition and is mocking perhaps the fact that it knows it won't win. Makes sense? (ok it does to me).

Yeees I was about to come edit b/c I realized I wasn't specific about that. I vote for tee-chan.

I assume this "tg" person is Tee-Chan? Your vote didn't really specify the person's name, but according to the details, it seems as though you were voting for Tee-Chan.

I vote for # 6.

I think the wings are well done ( the shape and stuff ). Also the color of Emily really goes well with the wings, and how Emy vivified the words and things are just amazing. This is my own opinion, so maybe other people have different ones.

Feels like some really well done artwork that took some time and dedication. [like something drawn for a tagbook ]

Love the unique styling of the wings around the tag, the graphics are amazing.

Topic closes in 5 minutes. The next theme is going to make some of you really, really happy. ;)

P.S. I counted the votes and Emy and no1i are currently at a tie. If someone manages to vote for one of them within the next few minutes, then this could be the tie-breaker.

PSS. Topic is now closed.
