Halcyon_ Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) Well basically, since pvp events=winners/participants are most probably people that already have end game equips, leaving new players with no chance to win at all, making the gap between new players and old players larger. How about adding some more nonpvp events? Events such as, Crack the pub - a GM makes a pub with a pass, the title of the pub is the clue. Run for your life - a GM summons a mob which can 1 hit anything or uses hallucination walk on a character with like 5k on all stats to 1 hit everything on a small map (2 boxes of the dice event map could work, skills are off(hiding/cloak/stalker skill>gangster paradise[gangster scarf])SKILLS ARE OFF (so that there will be no AoE attacks, only single target). -uh, this one sounds like the dice event, but is a lot more fun. (I got the idea of the 2 events above from another server) And also, might wanna consider making the clues for HnS a bit harder? Clues like "city of steel", "the hermit land" and "the wootan tribe's village" is just like saying "find me in einbroch/gonryun/umbala" (alt-tab, google "city of steel ragnarok" http://www.google.com.ph/#hl=en&source...;fp=1&cad=b then hola~ you got the map.) Clues like "broken terracotta statues in a dungeon", sounds good. The map is lou_dun02 where there are many broken terracotta statues, just to make things a bit interesting and stuff, just describe the terrain of the map where you are hiding, not that hard really. Or an HnS with crack the pub. (gm hides with a with a password pub, players must find him and get in the pub) also..Hide INSIDE BUILDING! (out of all the HnS I've witnessed, there was only 1 time where the GM decided to hide inside a building, though he gave us a clue about where that building is) HnS doesn't even last for 5 mins, there are even times where it doesn't reach 30 seconds, and that isn't fun at all :| Edited January 19, 2010 by Halcyon_
Adum* Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 There's actually password event, though they barely do it. We have novice dodgeball as well and again they barely do it. I want to see new event also.
Devotion Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Crack the Pub and Run For Your Life we already have, or at least very close versions. But really when you list all the events we're allowed to host, the number of PvP events is very small compared to the rest. What I mostly see GM's hosting now are LMS, Dice, Warp Portal, Hide and Seek. So it's always the same events coming out. Passowrd is hella fun, I'm not sure why other GM's don't like it (I assume they don't like it? O.o). But eventing is no longer my primary job here so password's pretty extinct. I agree with you that Hide and Seek has become way too easy. I remember the days when Shield and I would enjoy waiting 30 minutes for someone to find us. But really how hard or easy GM's want to make their rounds is up to them. I'll make a topic in GM forums referring to this suggestion, but in this case I don't want to order any events on anyone.
Halcyon_ Posted January 20, 2010 Author Report Posted January 20, 2010 Thanks, I hope they consider changing it/making it a bit more challenging/fun.
Lilium Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 They have a hide-and-seek kind of thing (I think called "match me") on another server where a gm would take a really close screenshot of themselves sitting in some location, and the background would be the only clue. Then the players had to get in the exact same spot, and use /where to get the location, then post it on the forums (I think a Screen Shot with the coordinate on the chat box) The reward would be the headgear the gm was wearing in the initial picture.
Devotion Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 That's actually really neat o__o! And it would make people actually get on forums.
Rune Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I do events depending on the feed back received. I used to make challenging rounds of Hide&Seek, players complained it was too hard, and none ever praised it, so the level went down until I heard no more complaints. This thread is actually the only thing a player ever said that requests for more difficulty... I did password sometimes and the problem with it, is that it requires too much cooperation from the players, it is harder to conduct. And the larger the level of frustration caused to the GM while making an event, the slimmer the chances s/he'll do it often. Besides, whenever I make a pool broadcast for which event I should host I only get the same votes; "Dice, LMS, H&S" Since events are made for the players, I take their opinion in high consideration. As such, this thread serves as refference for my future events.
Devotion Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Rune is very correct, most votes go to Dice, LMS, H&S and sometimes Survival, with a few odd other events from certain players. But really whatever you host players will come, even if they didn't vote on it. By the same token I derive much satisfaction from ignoring the masses and going my own thing, often to the many "omg thanks!" and "finally's" of players. Password is one of the funnest events imo, from a GM perspective that is. All the player antics that go on during password can be overcome, and even the players will help you out with, "Stop spamming she's trying to host," "Dude wtf she said wait to finish the question!" etc. I actually sweat doing this event, because I'm handling so much at once but it works now, and it's a great challenge. You always get the spamming HW and the haters who claim all your questions are "American" and "too difficult wtf who's supposed to know that." I really like Password...I sort of ranted there :S
Game Over Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I think that for password, it's self explanatory if you have a chat up with a "lock" on it and the "clue" being the chat name. If I was a GM I'd explain the rules (even if people kept spamming) and then whoever WANTS to participate and pay attention, can actually join the event, and all the spammers can be confused and just lose. I don't think that a few spammers should ruin it for the rest of the community. As for events, just do random events. Sure people love Dice, H&S, and LMS, but a change from the GM's themselves would be lovely. For example, when announcing "Which event do you want" Give them choices: "Novice run, Password, H&S" and make them choose from those ONLY. You'll never get complains for LMS and Dice from most of the community, since they're already popular events. So just don't worry about them.
Halcyon_ Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Oh, someone actually hosted password earlier though I wasn't able to join because we were trying to kill rsx/lod for the pick. lol
Lilium Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Maybe I can feed events that happen on the other server here or something. Lol. Or send the event forum to a gm for ideas or something. .-.
Game Over Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 You might get in trouble if you send the forum itself, since it might count as "advertising" unless you specify "for event ideas" Not sure though.
Wish Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Without permission from the server/event owners, it's possible that we would get in trouble for taking events from other servers, I believe.
Game Over Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 But what if it's events that had been done on multiple servers?
Wish Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I'm actually not 100% sure. I still think we might need permission from the one who thought of it, but...Well, I'll talk to Devotion and Sensation about it and see.
Lilium Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Well, I guess they don't really have much event wise other than holidays and like... two weekly things. Server isn't too eventful otherwise. .-. So meh.....
Game Over Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 But I mean, other servers have a lot of events that forsaken doesn't have. It would still be very hard to figure out "which" server it belongs to, to begin with.
Rune Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) Acknowledged. I'll be taking all opinions here into consideration as well. As for the new events, I'd also like some of them implemented. Problem is for some we'd need more tools, aka; event NPCs. Which means more work for the already overloaded programmers... Edit for news; I was shot for trying to host a Harder Hide & Seek, even a larger prize didn't stimulate players very much, and the complaints were rather...extensive. Edited January 22, 2010 by Rune
Devotion Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 Thank God RO bullets are pixels ;) I don't know how difficult your H&S is, but they used to be really tough. And no offense to anyone but players are very spoiled these days, and most don't know it. So let the complainers complain and let the hard working players find you and earn the prize. Offensive @requests can be ignored and if you don't want people PMing you with offensive content don't BC with your name (idk if you do or not).
Rune Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 Ah well, my H&S lasted 2 hours and I only did three hard rounds, so I believe it was hard enough ^^" I believe it was a well expended time to me, I will try to find some sort of balance, like I did; 5 rounds, 3 were hard and 2 were very easy. I usually BC without my name, the complaints came mostly in @requests and player broadcast...

Only those who work hard deserve rewards.
Rune Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 I'll keep your opinion in mind. /no1 Maybe the ones who complain are those who are interested only in the prize instead of the fun of the event. And usualy the ones not interested in working hard for something are those who are already in a confortable situation.
Shadi Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Clues like "broken terracotta statues in a dungeon", sounds good. The map is lou_dun02 where there are many broken terracotta statues, just to make things a bit interesting and stuff, just describe the terrain of the map where you are hiding, not that hard really. 100% agreed. Like 2 days ago I finally saw an hide and seek with an GM disguising as an monster or NPC instead of being invisible with 3 dots. And giving normal tips instead of saying "I'm in hugel come and find me". It was way more enjoyable and I would prefer it over the 3 dot hide and seek anytime. Also only event ideas released on eAthena are free to use by all servers, any custom events from other servers are not allowed to be used unless you have permission to do so from the admin of the other server.
