Questions To The Judges

Recommended Posts

Our section of the forums (originality, music, current events) are rarely posted in and barely viewed. We're at the bottom part of the forums, so people don't mainly focus their attention to our section.

P.S. Does anyone want to have a topic in the public forum about whether judges should be able to participate and see if they have any other ideas as to promoting it?

Well now that you do mention moving the entire forum up into the top, it would make it a lot easier. I was just planning to have a topic there promoting the SOTW, and re-linking them to this forum.

Yes and yes.

I really don't think you particularly need to discuss it. Judges just don't participate in their own events. Like I said, it really won't kill you to take a week off judging to join in. It's just more fair that way.

I wouldn't mind if a topic was made in the Event section, but I'm only one person. You'd probably have to talk to Genesis about that to make sure it was ok.

At the moment it's 3 votes yes and 2 votes no. You guys would be better off agreeing to a poll.

Well, if my opinion counts (Which I hope it does), I agree with what Devotion and Wish stated. There's a certain limit as to a person joining in on his/her own events. Sure, GMs had and has been participating in their own events, but it does not mean that it's good to look at. I have nothing against you guys, but joining SOTW and being judges at the same times can cause commotion such as biasness and unfairness even if that's not really happening. If you guys really wish on participating in this event, you guys can either step down for one week and get another person to judge the event with the rest of the remaining judges. Otherwise, it's really a no.

This isn't a vote. You have two senior and one event GM telling you from experience this would be a bad idea.

I'd also like to add that no GM events involve voting on a winner! it's either determined by luck or skill. Believe me if we had like a beauty pageant I would never allow participating GM's to enter their legits. Point finale.

And you have 3 ex-GMs/members of the GFX team/Judges of the SOTWs/Graphic mods tell you from their expirience that it wouldn't be a problem. Makes two opinions for me.

So basically you're trying to, in a roundabout way, tell us you want to forbit us to participate?

It's established. We're sitting out for a few, Pat.

No rebellism? No resistance? No more 'you gotta' fight for your right - beastie boys' parodies?

...sissy. q______q....

So Devo's will shall be done...? I'm highly disagreeing with that. Sorry.

They've certainly been playing the server longer than all of us...

Lol.

I hope that's sarcasm I'm smelling.

No Pat I'm not rebelling on this because it's just sheer out, pardon my French, retarded. They're saying we should sit out because people won't participate if we do because they consider it, if we join, an overkill. Muffin Master just joined the last SOTW and demolished other competitors. People choose what they like, or were paid to vote for, thus why we we enhanced on the rules and voting system. Would you like to know why nobody enters SOTW? Forums are practically useless to in-game players. They rarely even touch it unless the server goes down. EVEN if we tried to promote SOTW in-game, we probably would not get participants.

You guys compare us to being GMs. We're not even forum-wide Moderators. We monitor two sections of the entire forum. Now you take away what got us to this position in the first place.

Too much sarcasm and fooling around.

Players wouldn't like to let GMs participate in their own events, we encourage the new batches not to, exactly to prevent cheating.

We can't completely verify if someone cheats in their own events or letting their friends win, there simply is no time for that and very hard to check.

For that same reason, the GMs that have replied as well as Jay stated in a fair way that you shouldn't be allowed to participate in your own section/forum event either if you judge that week.

Don't all suddenly take your hands off the judging part, you were selected for your insight and professionalism on this subject.

So please show professionalism and come to a nice and fair(to everyone) agreement.

Let's try again shall we?

Your attitude really is off putting; I haven't forced the other GM's to agree in my favor. But sure, I'll play your game: If you want to participate you don't judge that week. Find a guest judge if you like.

And by all means, Vapo, if you feel the need to you can always leave.

We can and will broadcast about the event in game and for now any of you can make a promotional topic for it wherever in the forums you think it will be seen the best.

^ Pretty much what I said. Again, it won't kill you to sit out one week.

Players will not be judging anymore. That's why judges were selected, correct? Therefore, they won't be able to cast a vote for whom they like the best.

Also, you guys were the first ones to start comparing yourselves to GMs, so...

We are not trying to overrun your event. Quite the opposite. We do not want to see it die. Personally, I think it is a great idea for an event. Players can take their time, and it's not an in-game thing based on luck or PvP skill. I like the diversity it offers. Like Devotion said, I see no problem helping to promote this.

It dies if none of us host it.

Take turns, organize. That's partially what the hidden forum can be used for. If you guys have a specific theme you'd like to participate in, reserve it ahead of time. If all of you would like to participate in a certain week, ask a few GMs to step in. There are several of you. I believe that you can problem solve. This is the responsibility of your positions. You DO have a position among the public that members look to, especially in this event.

For now, I'd say that judges are not permitted to participate the event. We'll see how it goes, and if only a few people participate and the same person wins all the time, then so be it. We'll make changes once we see the result.

As for the switching judges idea, I had originally planned to start it tomorrow but if we're going to go along with this idea, it may stall the SOTW event just a bit. What would we have? A sign-up list for guest judges? An application? But overall, we'll just see how it goes. I'll talk to Char and Desi if they still want to be judges, and after that, I'll talk to Jorge.

Anyways, thanks for all of your opinions guys. It's been a rough road in this conversation, but we should be trying to get along, considering we are judges. If we don't work together, then the event might fall apart.

For guest judges, if they're a GM, there's no need for applications, just ask one of us to participate. When you put out the next SOTW, get a hold of any GM in game and ask them to bc for it.

I thought that both Graphic Moderators/SOTW judges and GM team were both judges in the competition, so I thought that guest judges meant that someone that doesn't have any moderator powers would be a guest judge. Edited by Ethereal

Okay so who's going to set all these 'guest judges' to SOTW Judges and then back to normal members again? Remember these forums are hidden; therefore normal members cannot access them. Each guest judge would have to be set to SOTW Judge every single SOTW. But why do I even care? We've got ~senior GMs~ arranging the event...
