.Sushi. Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 :O!!!!!!!!!!!! TEE-CHAN!!!!!!!!!!!! :O!! Nice! ;)
Devotion Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 You tickle me pink xP No pun intended. It's not bad either. It would probably be easier for you to "recolor" at first, at least to have the basic rucksack shape. Changing parts of it is not a problem and it makes it more unique. For spiriting you need: Photoshop (preferably) Spr Conview (to view sprites and convert them) GRF Tool (To extract sprites from fro's database) Act0r (To create acts for your sprites in game) The three above you get at www.ratemyserver.net under "tools" I'm actually spriting right now, something completely original and new. I can get so lost in it I don't see time go by. And I should really create a guide for it here. Keep up the awesome work, and thanks again :)
Tee-chan Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Posted November 4, 2009 =D yes please! I would love a guide regarding that, unfortunately i don't have Photoshop ( nor have any knowledge on it >: ) I shall learn Sprites and GRF tools + Act0r :D! Thank you for stopping by Devotion <3 p.s Thanks Sushi!
Tee-chan Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Posted November 4, 2009 (edited) Okay! Devotion Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Did you use the color table to change colors?
Tee-chan Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Posted November 4, 2009 (edited) Used the Hue Saturation table *nods* - doesn't know what a colour table is- - doesn't have Photoshop ( everything was done with GIMP) - - doesn't know anything about photoshop and pixel art- - still can't make .act stuff - QQ. - made a progress and managed to turn it into a sprite- xP Edited November 4, 2009 by Tee-chan
plamoun02 Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 it looks like the eyes of the star from super mario | . |
Devotion Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Hue saturation is a "no-no" for high quality sprite recolors. They turn out too saturated and bright. In photoshop you have the color table, which happens when you switch an image from RBG mode to "indexed color." Then every single color on the BMP sprite image will be displayed in this table. Click any of the colors and it will bring up the "color picker" and you can choose nicer colors. Doing this you can recolor an entire basic headgear in about 15 minutes.
Tee-chan Posted November 5, 2009 Author Report Posted November 5, 2009 (edited) D: Downloaded Phothoshop ! D: How do i do that >: Sensei, Master xD. :3 Would you teach me >: Edited November 5, 2009 by Tee-chan
Tee-chan Posted November 5, 2009 Author Report Posted November 5, 2009 QQ. Pencil? Nu. I found the colour table. lol Same thing still replaces it 1 pixel at a time :P Tho it's better! @_@ still doens't udnerstand much of the concept of using it through >:
Devotion Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Mac's rucksacks have about 8-10 colors in them. Happy's rucksacks (angeling, deviling, archangeling) have more than that since they're a bit more complex. This excludes any doodads like wings, hats etc on the rucksack. So let's say you want to recolor Hollowring because you don't like the orange. Image > Mode > Color Table -> And you have all its colors in neat order (at least when I make sprites, some are a mess :/) And then one by one you select each color and the color picker will come up. Choose preview on your color table and you'll see the color changes appear on your sprite. This not only lets you pick beautiful non-iridescent colors, but it'll make your recoloring life extremely fast. Because on the color table you have this miraculous little button called save, which lets you save your palette! (This still excited me. I know I'm a dork). And so for the rest of your BMP images, all you have to do is go into your color table, click load and choose the palette you just saved and, voila, the item will instantaneously change to the color palette you just saved. There is no need to go pixel by pixel, there is no need to do each BMP image individually. This is an important trick because every BMP for a sprite has to have the exact same palette, in the same color order. You'll notice that any color that is not listed in your color table will not appear properly on your BMP. Also, all colors you use in every BMP of a sprite must be listed in the color table, whether or not it is used in every BMP. Save in 8 bit mode, which it should do automatically if in index color. At no point switch modes or your color table will be lost. What I often do is create my sprite first in RBG mode, and then a create a palette for it (to do this start a blank document, index it, go to the color table and use the dropper tool to quickly input the colors from your image to the color table). Then when I switch it into Indexed mode I load that palette and everything is neat and orderly and I didn't have to struggle in indexed mode the entire time. The backgrounds of your BMP's have to be a certain color which will become transparent once you make it into a sprite. I personally use c8f8d3 since green is nice and easy on the eyes, but there are various other background colors, including the most obnoxious shade of "pink." ~Devo

Tee-chan Posted November 7, 2009 Author Report Posted November 7, 2009 QQ. Been busy! I'll try my best :3 Looks complicated, Devotion T_T
Tee-chan Posted November 7, 2009 Author Report Posted November 7, 2009 What I often do is create my sprite first in RBG mode, and then a create a palette for it (to do this start a blank document, index it, go to the color table and use the dropper tool to quickly input the colors from your image to the color table). Then when I switch it into Indexed mode I load that palette and everything is neat and orderly and I didn't have to struggle in indexed mode the entire time. How do you Use the dropper tool to put the colours from the image to the Colour table? I don't get it =S
Devotion Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 I made an example for you. So in the screenshot, I'm changing the black winged rucksack's colors to hollowring very quickly by using the dropper tool. 1. select the dropper tool 2. Go into the black winged rucksack's color table 3. Select the darkest color of that rucksack (which will in turn become the darkest color of the hollowring) 4. The color Picker will come up, and all you do is click the dropper tool on the darkest color of the Hollowring, and you'll see. As you can see on the black poring, his color has changed in one area. This works the same if you want to create a palette from an RBG image
Tee-chan Posted November 7, 2009 Author Report Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) :O got it T_T its a miracle thanks devotion, but what do you mean by the pallate become neater, as in not all around the place? =s because that's just dropping colours, if made in a new document it's pretty much blank? o.o note : Good Morning Devotion ;3 Edited November 7, 2009 by Tee-chan
Devotion Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 Yeah, it's neater. You put the background color first, and then you go from darkest to lightest in that particular color range. So on my black poring rucksack, I have the background color, the black shades darkest to lightest, then the wing colors from darkest to lightest. That way if I ever feel I want to change the colors because i don't like it, or I want to make a recolor, it's all in order.
