Suggestion: Item Upgrades

I'm not 100% sure because I'm really not much of a programmer but I think this could be done by using an SQL query à la

UPDATE fkarmors
   SET fkingarmor='Forsaken King's Armor'
   WHERE fkingarmor='Forsaken King's Armor+10'

I'm not even 50% sure tbh so idk.

I have no clue what that means, but I suppose it takes your Forsaken King Armor, and replaces it with a new one?

Most scripts are coded in C, the SQL is used for easy database navigation.

I think this suggestion is appealing, just not on top of suggestions that need to be done as soon as possible.

Sensation has a very good point. This idea could probably be added sometime soon™ in the future as a new feature for fRO. But for now, it's not something that is like a must have.

I actually really like where you're going with this. The gemstones seem like a really great idea, and having it only apply to a certain armor really sounds interesting as well. Although it reminds me of another game (different from RO), it actually sounds really appealing if we were to add it here, on fRO.

The stats of the gemstones seem semi-fair. I think probably after refine rate 5, it would start increasing by 2 INT. And then at 9~10, it would increase by 3 INT. So, if you were to calculate this, it would end up being a total of 17 INT. Take into consideration that the percentages of reaching +10 refine rate is extremely low, so I think we should make the stats worth-while to have.

About the idea of having a percentage to break, it seems alright to have it break. I would expect to see many tickets and complaints about "omg gm pls return my f armor!! i keep refining and den wen i refine to 9... it dissapear! pls return!! " If that were to happen, we'd probably add to the NPC, "Warning: You are about to refine it to +8 with a 10% chance to break, are you willing to take the risk?" and it would give a few warnings before you actually refine it. So personally, if we were to add the percentage to break, it should be lower. Overall, the refine rate list seems fine to me.

The quest idea sounds great as well, if we could make it an interesting quest, it'd be interesting to do.

Yeah, i thought having such features, it could help players further customize their gear ^^ i thought up these stats because to me they are fair and not too much OP, but any increase could be applied according to other's oppinions too :3

One of the matters that troubles quite a bit about stuff breaking is some players bugging the staff for refounds of something because "they didn't know". i guess the NPC asking like...5 times in a row if the person is sure about it XP

And well, i often run out of things to do in game either because of the same boredom of questing the same things in the same maps, or doing/listening the same things over and over...so yeah, more things to hunt and quests to do can always help players keep themselves entertained ^^

Chance of critical failure-The equipment is reverted to a random of level 0~5 and will never be able to be refined in this manner again.<------ HMm if someone is gonna sell this item buyer will not know what kind of it is right?

We can color code the +'s. For example, taking Kusanagi's example with the Fire Ruby (STR) for the helm, it wouls appear as a red + refine rate in front of the item.

Example : +10 Blue Imperial Valkyrie Helmet

Exactly what i had in mind to help identifying what was used in the iten. Also, Adding an "*" above the number in caze the iten already suffered a critical failure, so others would know the iten's history by simply looking at its name XP Then again, if the iten broke instead of getting unrefinable, it would make things easier ^^

And...of course, as much as the new refining system suggestion is appealing, we have more pressing matters at hand X3 Never hurts to speculate tho.

so you are gonna do it in the src? =/ , I believe creating new IDs with the effects would be much easier a error proof still :P.

As for wide degrade... there would be no need in this method.

After all the armor will still be +10 (it will give defense) but it will have and extra effect added since its scripted into the item and not in the upgrade.

Example:

+10 Lvl 1 Forsaken king Armor

Easier Idea came while writing this xD

You just need to create ONE duplicate of the forsaken kings pieces with whatever name, add the script bonusrefinelvl at certain lvls of upgrade (or even better just do the bonus something like this : bonus bMaxHPRate getrefine*0.5

That one makes the armor to give +1% HP at every 2 upgrades.

However its just an example on how it should be done the bonus can be whatever it fits.

The only problem about doing this is making the npc after all they require new catalyst and the ultima upgrader should completely ignore this items in order to make it work.

Then voila, job done in less than 2 hours (well exept that they would need to add the items on the Grfs wich well its not all that hard but requires people to do it lol, else they would get errors when looking at the armors (unless a temporary compy is done).

Why didnt I Thought that before xD.

Anyway thats my idea if you need help doing the codes (doubt it but still xD) Ill make them and test them on my server :P.

Oh yeah and thats only the way to do it, then its needed for you to decide the bonuses

One more thing we could have is: if the upgrades on all items are higher than a fixed threshold (+7 maybe), it would cause the char sprite to get an aura (an aura like the lvl 99 aura from iRO).

Regarding the priority of this upgrade, i can't really make a point because i don't know what other upgrades are in the queue.. but doing this one would certainly help make current players want to come back to the game and work hard at their inventories and at the same time add to the feature list of the server - thus raising its charm over other private servers.

Your idea seems appealing, but I don't think it's possible. If it was, then I'd say it might take a lot of coding. At the least, I'd say a small aura would do good. Not a big one like the level 99 aura you'd see on iRO, but possibly smaller.

Also, I agree with the point made about if we were to implement this idea, it would make this server have a certain, and better charm over others.

I see the excuse of having to code too much stuff being used too much. If you want something to be better than competition then you have to put the extra effort into it. Oh and changing a few words here and there or adding some more is not termed 'coding'. Even a kid can do this job.

From the first post to here there's a lot of TL:DR's that I actually

read and I'm not sure who's idea we're suppose to be following

anymore.

Honestly, I don't know anyone willing to lose their Forsaken Gears

for a few extra bonus points or a pretty aura.

But if you feel that adamant about your idea, and if a kid can do it,

then please code it out and present it to us again after you're done.
