Tempest Kin Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Clown and Gypsy : A song and dance. 1. Introduction 2. Clown/Gypsy and Sniper? 3. The Stats that Help us! 4. Skills : Why do I need a Gypsy/Clown to preform? 5. Gear - Cards - Wut? 6. The Other. Introduction Clown and Gypsy are basically the same class the reason why there are two is because one is boys only (Clown), and one is girls only (Gypsy). There are some minor differences, however their aren't many. This is going to be a run down of the basic set-up and gearing of a this class. If your looking for a heavy PvP/WoE based guide, I probably won't be as much help for that. Besides most of that info is cross covered through out the forums anyways, and can be rotated through the classes, and most of that is just learned over time what works for you and what doesn't. Overall the class is a very unique and fun class, but is far from an outright powerhouse of it's counter part Sniper. However, if you can find a partner, you'll probably find some funner aspects of the class/s. Note : As far as I know none of these skills have bee adjusted for High rate so I will work off them based off of the effect they have normally, if any of these are different, please tell me. Another note : I will change this as I re-learn more about the class, and do my own testing, any help is gladly welcomed! :) Clown/Gypsy and Sniper? What does Clown/Gypsy and Sniper have in common? Aside from the same starting class? Not much really. I will say that Gypsy do get the upper hand most of the time, only because the skills they get are better suited for HR and their weapons tend to be a bit better so. Clown/Gypsy don't get much support for their own class as much as they can support other classes. They are a supportive class aimed at supporting others so be prepared for that. So, I bet yer thinking then what role does it have in High rate? Well it depends, the class gets a few unique abilities that seperate it in terms of offensive from Sniper. However, a lot of it's supportive abilities won't be used. So if your looking for a power house for PvP and WoE, you're better off just building a Sniper. However, that's not to say Clown/Gypsy can't be really strong in PvP or WoE, however it takes a bit more skill, and has a steeper learning curve. I personally fell in love with the clown class in PvP. The Stats that Help us! What stats do you need for the class? Well, luckily, Instruments, and Whips both get their attack base the same way a bow does. So that means, you need Agi, Dex, and... Luk. I'm serious too, you'll want to crit as much as possible considering the fact that you're going to cover up your lower damage out put. I aimed for 150 AGI, 280 Dex, 150 Luk. I also put about 40 Str in, 70 Vit, and 20/30 Int. Now, I put in that much Str just so I could carry some stuff, It's still not much. Unless you like going and selling yer stuff constantly, which actually gets you more zeny, you'll learn to focus on just getting the good drops that will fill your coffer faster. 70 Vit will give you about 56,000 hp at 255 with out any HP bonuses. Now, with that much DEX/AGI/LUK I deal about 1,200 damage per shot with out crit, and 2,000/4,000 damage with crit depending on my arrow with out any other damage increases or decreases. With 150 agi, you'll be able to dodge a good amount also. Agi also has a minor effect on att power. Really, it's up to you how you want to set the stats up. However, one key point is before you focus on Luk, focus on getting your attack speed to max. The faster you hit, the faster the mob dies. So run down? Get Agi, Dex, and Luk to 150/280/150 respectively. You could probably push the Dex up to 300 and loose some agi, however it's up to you. You'll get some help from Job skills also, which I'll explain later. I will make a note ( i.e. here's the note ), quite a few of the clowns/gypsy's skills require INT to work on enemies, so if you plan on using them I would highly recommend either INT gear or a good 100 INT. These skills damage/inflict a status ailment to the enemy ( doesn't work on a boss for most of them, well at least with 100 INT ), and require you to bed singing/dancing, and thus not attacking them so they are only good if you have someone who can attack for you, (Pally anyone..? Please...? :( ) 4. Skills : Why do I need a Gypsy/Clown to preform? First off about skills, as you level you'll notice some skills require a Gypsy & Clown to be in a party, and together to preform. No, that doesn't mean just party up and you can get the skill, you really have to be right next to them to use it, and it really offers little bonuses in a PvM setting until you can get the skill that lets you use arrow vulcan well preforming, which still isn't as beneficial as just attacking. So unless you plan on parting up with people well you get to 255/255, you won't be touching many ( nearly all ) of your skills. I'm going to first cover the ones you'll use most, then the ones you can find uses in parties/WoE. You will have enough points to get all the skills of a Clown/Gypsy, and have tons left over (about a 100 skill points ). ( A quick glance at RO database will show you all the skills that are offered, I'm not going to list them all and benefits as it really comes down to how you wish to use them. Archer Skills Bard Dancer Clown/Minstrel Gypsy) Buffs For You! Archer Skills - The Ones you'll need the most. Owl's Eye, and Vulture's Eye's are two passive abilities which are nice to have and some little bonuses to Dex and Range/Hit. They aren't that great in High rate, but none the less a buff is a buff, take it for what it is. I nearly forgot the best one, Improve concentration! Get it, Use it, ABUSE IT! It's so good, I'll give you it's description. Effect: Increases DEX and AGI of the casting character by 2% + 1%*SkillLV. Only affects DEX/AGI from base stat, job bonus, armor and Owl's Eye. Does not include cards. Detects hidden and cloaked characters within a 3 cells range. At level 10 skill it gives +12%. Yes, 12% inculdes owl's eye ( which offers +10 at level 10. ) It will gvie you an additional 40 Dex at with 275 Dex. Admit it, you're drooling! ;) And yes, it detects characters that are hiding on you. I see you assassin/stalker! I'm also going to recommend, Double Strafe and Arrow shower become your friend. However, they only work with a bow with you won't see again once you get melody strike/arrow vulcan until you get max attack speed. I'll cover it more later, but for now get them and use them are you're own regard. ( Double Strafe his a 2 hit attack that deals more damage then 2 of your normal hits would, and Arrow shower is Area of Effect damage, good for killing Hydra's not much else... ) Bard/Dancer Skills - Get your grove on~ The notable ones, are sadly... limited in High rate, especially after you get max attack speed. In fact, I only use Improve concentration now. However, you'll need some abilities before you get max attack. You'll want Musical Lesson and Melody Strike First. So get them, and grab your instrument/whip, ( Pm me in game if you want some of the better ones, however the shop does offer some nice whips...). I will make a note, don't buy the harp from the instrument seller, it's some 620,000 zeny with barely more attack then the guitar at 100,000 zeny. Besides, harps are annoying. ( I'm serious, they are annoying. ) Frost Joke ( Bard Only ) Is only there for pointless amusement and no real use, however it can be pretty funny if you're sleep deprived or in a silly mood. It freezes opponents with a decent success rate, however like Tarot Card of Fate later on, it looses it's usefulness in it's horrible delay ( and I mean horrible ), and not as much success rate. Scream ( Dancer Only ), it's like frost joke, but a bit better in that it stuns with a low success rate (50% at max level) however, it has a better chance then frost joke which pushes it's usefulness up a bit more.. However it's not much better. Pang Voice (Bard) and Wink of charm (Dancer), see above, they just aren't worth trying to use. However, Wink of Charm can be fun againest Angel, Demon, or DemiHuman mobs in that you can stop them from attacking you, if you are in trouble or just want to kill them. It doesn't work on players only confuse them. Pang Voice sucks don't use it. Clown/Gypsy - Only the best, baby! You get some more help when you trans, however... not much for solo. Again, you're looking at a class aim at supporting others, and High rate tends to be fend for yourself... so... You will! You get Arrow Vulcan, Yes! Oh god finally something I can love! At level 10 skill, and with the right arrows, this ability can save you. It gives you 1200% damage bonus. Use it. Love it. Abuse it. I'm serious, go do it. I will say that, relativily speaking max attack speed with a bow and the right arrows will do considerable damage also. So~ it's up to you which you prefer. However, with an instrument you can use a shield Now, after you trans you get some nifty abilities, Sheltering Bliss, Marionette Control and Tarot card of fate. Oh and wand of hermode, and longing for freedom offer some help... kinda... To bad they either don't work in high rate, or have limited uses in it. Marionette Control, gives half of your skills to an ally, to bad it won't push it past 99, so they get no bonus for the most part. Sheltering Bliss requires the opposite job, I.e. A gypsy and clown together, that makes a 9x9 squire area that no one can enter... to bad they can still cast spells on you and ranged attacks. However it can be used during WoE... So it can have some use it stopping people from advancing. However, you can't do anything during it, no attack or moving. Tarot card of Fate is a random chance abilities that has a 40% chance of dealing a wide variety of either damage, status inflicting moves. 40% chance? yea, not worth it especially since some of them can hurt you or kill you. 40% divided by 14 to get the card you want... again it's a trophy nothing else. Have fun looking. Yes, I will admit that is has some uses. ( If you really want to know what they do look here. ). Wand of Hermode, and Longing for freedom are good in the sense they have some use. Wand of Hermode strips your allies of their buffs, except frenzy, and makes your allies immune to magic. Problem? can only be used during WoE, You're allies need to stay in it's AoE, and you need a warp point in it for it to work. I don't know why. Longing for freedom, allows you to move, and have you're normal attack speed well in an ensemble, i.e. a song/dance that requires both clown/gypsy. It's kinda good, but not... The skills you long for! These are the skills which I consider useful for anyone in your party when you're supporting them or attacking the enemy. Or skills that look useful... but aren't in High Rate. However, this is where you'll notice Dancer shines more, why? because it's debuffs/buffs have a better use high rate but lesser use in low rate. As they effect things that have bigger numbers and it works of percentages. Again, though they have limited use, unless you like to groove out to them... -dances-... -dances-... oh right! guide... sorry... Bards Only - Song of Lutie - At max skill, Maximum Hp +25%, and heals 80Hp every 6 seconds for those in range. They keep the hp bonus, again good to give people more hp. However at High rate? Really not worth the added Hp. Poem of Bragi - reduces casting time/skill delay, and cool down timer. it's based off your dex and int, it's good in some since in that it allows the spamming of skills a bit easier but, again it's all dependent on a few factors. Dissonance - If it did more damage, yes... but don't use it... ever. Dancer Only - Service for you - it's good if you're helping out a magic caster, why? It reduces the amount of SP you use for a spell, and gives max sp +25%. Please don't forget me - if you are attacking something with help, use it, please! It reduces the movement speed and attack speed of enemies in it;s AoE. Yes, it will make other players attack slower, by 30%! Ugly dance - Drains sp from enemies in the area, it stacks with other dancers.. right.. 30 sp on people who have thousands? don't use it... ever. Both - These are very varied, use them when you see fit. Only mentioning the most notable ones, I.e. ones that have a good use in High rate. Longing for freedom can make or break these. Again these are based off of variables, consider them when you're looking for an edge if you have a partner. Loki's Veil - blocks skill uses for everyone in area. Because max attack speed can be used here it's not as good, however, it can have some benefits if used correctly. Especially if both the clown/gypsy have longing for freedom. Invulnerable - grants a 80% resistance to elementals, and 50% against ailments, again interesting uses. Doesn't work againest bosses. The Ring - Increases damage of all Level 4 Weapons within area of effect by DEF-ignoring +50+25*SkillLV. Can not be canceled by Dispell. Yea, +175 damage at max level, again has some uses.. Eternal Chaos - Reduces the DEF of enemies to 0 within the area of effect. Can not be canceled by Dispell. Yea... It's kinda sexy in that weird way, however so many people are paranoid of thanos it prolly ain't great during pvp, and not sure how strong it is againest regular mobs. I haven't been able to test. Lullaby - Puts enemy's to sleep in a 11x11 square, but requires dex and inflicts it every 6 seconds, can't be dispelled. Is it worth it? Probably not, but if you can find a use, abuse it. - The random Abilities - Adaptation to Circumstances - Cancels a song/dance, Encore - allows the use of a song you just used for half the sp. -meh- Gear - Cards - Wut? As for the gears? Aim for the elite sets, or use your own judgement. Really it comes down to personal preference on this. There is a lot of info out there at other guides which cover PvP and WoE cards/equips. So to help you, I'm going to point you in the direction of other guides that actually show you in-depth on what to do by people who obviously know what they are talking about. A newcomers guide. It's good to look over the basic's every now and then. Now, I used that leveing guide in there. I highly recommend you go to tha_t08, and set @ali Stone of sage. Just kill and level and use your instrument or a bow whichever. However, if you want to fight something more different areas I'll make 3 suggestions. 1. Know your enemy, in thors volcano, equip a water arrow and use a bow at max attack speed. Why? You'll double/triple your damage. Keep weaknesses in mind, and equip accordingly. It will help you in the long run, and don't be afraid to play around with status arrows with max attack speed and high crit rates, you can inflict curse, silence, or other effects to a enemy and make the fight that much easier. 2. You're going to die. Don't bother using yggs, or potions, you'll just weigh yourself down. kamikaze it, and just level. it's faster with @warp function to just die, and go back. Save zenny too. I'm a cheapskate though. 3. Use your best judgement, and if you can partner up. It's really mostly learning as you go, and what to do and where. Equip yourself with crit bonus gear, and dex gear. Aim for cards that benefit this. RO Database is your friend I use these for now. My boots have the Fox card in them, I have a back peice with Giant whisper cards, and 2x reknown archer gloves. My head gear has Margareth Solin card, it silences mobs. I have a vanberk in my other headgear slot, it's good sometimes. I also have a back piece with a Chung E card for more crit rate with my +10 refinement. I recommend getting your gear and weapons +10 against enemies, or even PvP. If you're worried about Thanos chances are the people with them, are gonna be geared enough to take out most people easily. Well, chances are a Clown/Gypsy won't be able to people them. Not saying you shouldn't try! :) As for weapon, either bow or instrument/whip works fine. Again it's your choice, and how you feel about it. Aim for the best, and then boost it accordingly. I recommend you use a instrument/whip and arrow vulcan until you can max attack speed then it's all your choice. If you use an instrument, get a stone buckler or an elite buckler. I use stone buckler with a hodrelin card. It's nice, and I have a bass guitar which doesn't have anything in it yet, but I like it because it has good attack but offers a bunch of random abilities seismic weapon, and can cause chaos (Don't think the chaos works ). My bow has archer skeleton cards in it, which increase bow damage. I like to have cards that inflict status effects based on percentage, with max attack speed you'll be hitting so much chances are the effect will go off on nearly every mob. Like I said though, this is for me again enemies, find what works best for you. Don't be afraid to look up some info, and plan out. Cards drop like flies, if you look for them you'll get your own set up that benefits you most. Having different gear, to switch around to help you isn't bad. You have @storage if you can't carry it. It means you won't be able to change on the fly but~ Custom headgears, if you don't have one, get one it's not that hard. They have different effects, pick one you like and go with it. ( I picked amistr... it's cute :3) The elite gear. Work on it as you level, and it will save time. They pretty much speak for themselves if you don't donate. Non-donation Belts. Get if you can't donate, AGI, DEX or LUK all offers it's uses. if you get AGI, you can take some away and add to dex or get a luk and take away some of your crit bonus gear. All those guides credit goes to the respective authors of course. There are even more guides to look at. Xiolong even compiled them all! The Other. More to come if people have any input on WoE or PvP I'm still learning it. -Any comments are welcomed, I hope it was decent.-
Xiolong Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 This is a very good guide. I'll add it to the compiled guides. If you can get WoE/PvP tips and put them in there that would be nice. Just a suggestion, you can list the exact stats for a good build or several different stats for different builds. Also if you can I would list all the equips for each part of the body, perhaps making a poor and not poor set. Excellent guide!

Well I'm still not as adjusted with this game aspect as I was would like on this server so, as I learn more I'll try to add more to get used to it, and learn more about it all. And thanks for the compliment/critique~ I wasn't sure if I did good since no one read/checked it much~ ^^;
its777 Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 skimmed through but looks thorough and quite impressive, well done
