Nick Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 1. Actor doesn't do .spr files at all other than for displaying purposes, actor handles .act files. 2. Spr Conview sucks imo, I use ROSprToolkit for everything. It's what I used for all of the emp auras / fhelms and whatnot kekek.
» Pat Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 If you had already used ROSprToolKit, you wouldn't even think about using ConView again.
Shield Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 The only thing I use conview for is converting .bmp's to .spr's (and vice versa) and making the .act files(which is easy to do anyway). Is there something the ROSprToolKit does that Spr_Conview doesn't do?
-R e i Posted May 31, 2009 Author Report Posted May 31, 2009 I think they're the same o-o hmm imma look those at ratemyserver or eAthena IMPLEMENT THE SUPER NOVICE HAT!!!! I want it right now!!! QQ
» Pat Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Imagine you'd have to recolour a Forsaken King's Helm. Using the SprConview, you'd have to recolour each and every frame of the sprite and then put it back together. Using the ROSprToolKit, you only have to recolour the first sprite (0001) and leave the rest as the are. The ROSprToolKit takes the palatte from the first frame and applies it to all the others. You save a lot of time. (;
rinrin Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 They look better now but it's still just a lif hat on top of another hat :/
GrimFusion Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 I don't get it. These aren't original sprites. They're just sprite edits. Why is everybody giving so much credit? Sprite edits and color edits are for newbs.

Sprite edits and color edits are for newbs. Okay, then let's take out all the custom palletes for all classes, take out all hair colors, and oh! Let's not remind of us about 3rd trans. classes! And anything else that has been recolored or sprite edited. Have fun. Really, sprite edits and color edits give a variety of choices for players. What would a game be without choice or variety? Everyone would be looking the same... :/

What would a game be without choice or variety? Everyone would be looking the same... :/ Woah, woah, woah... I'm not saying get RID of all the swapped pallet sprites and the overlays. I'm just saying they shouldn't be the brunt of edits and that they're hecka easy to make. I just don't see why someone should get a page of praise for spending 10 minutes in a pixel editing program copy/pasting. I spent 10 years making my own 2D games; sprites, coding and all. When I was a noob to the game making scene, all I did were sprite edits and color pallet swaps of sprites ripped from other games, and I'd get bitched out for it. I'd spend 6 months working on some crummy fan game, and I wouldn't get an ounce of praise for it. Over the years, I learned how to make my own stuff from scratch. Now, I'm not anywhere near the same caliber as the original sprite artists for Ragnarok... who is? All I'm saying is that it strikes me as incredibly odd that the same thing that got me bitched at as a noob is earning someone else praise. Where are all the original sprites at?

The people that hue / saturation something then make it into a sprite, palette, etc; then there's the people who take their time making sure it fits in with RO colours. As someone who has recoloured quite alot of things for fRO, spending hours on certain sprites just to get them right, I can't believe how arrogant you are. Inb4 tl;dr post.

It's just naivety. I didn't know these peeps were working inside a limited color pallet. Well, I honestly don't think that applies to this post anyway, as the source images are already pallet corrected and it is just a simple copy/paste job. The majority of color edits on the net ARE just simple hue/saturation changes. I'm sorry I lumped you in with THOSE noobs. I just didn't know.

I'm one of them (The people that hue / saturation something them make it into a sprite, palette, etc.) LOL! Actually, I want to spend more hours on certain sprites just to get them right, but I don't have the right tools to make 1 so I just edited sprite that's all and yes I'm a noob at this.

If you keep plugging along with it, nobody stays a noob unless they just give up. After about a decade, I quit pixel and game graphic art and moved into photoshop because with the exception of the freeware and homebrew community, you'd have to strike it VERY lucky to actually get paid for 2D pixel art and animation, or you'll also end up having to learn programming languages, flash scripting, and a myriad of other complex applications to compete. A lot of people get burned out on pixel art because it's so intense and time consuming, and the payoff isn't all that rewarding. 2D artists are treated like poop within the game homebrew community, despite putting far more time into their work than basic 3D game artists. If you're going to continue, just make sure you're doing it for you. The moment you stop focusing on what YOU want to create and begin making pixel art for other people, the fun little hobby you began with turns into a job that you likely won't get paid for, and the whole idea loses it's appeal. Perhaps it'll be different for you; I can only speak from my experiences.
-R e i Posted June 3, 2009 Author Report Posted June 3, 2009 I'm just suggesting you know, it's not really for them, it's just a hobby =.= Hmm, the first time I created something in Photoshop is this : /gg Lol, I read some GFX tutorials and that's my outcome but I can't do it anymore QQ If I'm bored I'll do some recolor and stuff =.= Oh and can someone link me for "that" thing the one you guys told me, the one that can recolor stuff =.= I want to try it :P
