Enzyme Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 I've been looking at this server for about a week, considering playing here, but I'm not sure if this server is really for me. It seems to me that the server revolves around donation items entirely. I understand that anyone can get them, but usually the way you get them is an astronomically long quest, from what I can tell. Zeny seems basically worthless due to donation coupons being worth 30 mil each and there not being any really decent way to get money due to the drops on treasure boxes and gold being so low(nothing worth it considering 10 cents will get you 30 mil), and many of the custom cards make commonly used cards on other servers worthless. Seems like donation items are a HUGE shortcut and its either play for a long time and work for your donation items, or donate a weeks paycheck and become godly instantly. I'm not saying this server is unbalanced, the donation items are usuable by about every class, im just saying its like letting people buy accounts in WoW. The server is very stable, there have been tons of events from what i can see, and the rates are pretty much exactly what I was looking for. But I don't have money to donate, and I'm looking for a high rate, not intending to spend days on trying to get items other people got in 3 hours of work. About half of the people in Forsaken city have donation gear or some kind, as far as I can see, and who knows how many of the other half have mains with donation gear on, or just arent wearing the headgear. I guess my main question is, is it possible to compete in this server without donations? And is there some easier way to get donation items? I've seen the quests on the guides and they seem really long. To me this server seems like a high rate that plays like a low rate unless you donate. And some people will LOVE that, but thats just not what i'm personally looking for. Also, i've already seen a few ways to get 100% demi human reduction. Wouldn't that make you take like no damage from anything? How exactly is that calculated?
Kusanagi Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 whenever I pvp Im mainly a non donation because its easier to hold gangs in non donation (yeah pseudo pro donators), There absolutely nothing is about donation. You can get the items either Through quests, Hunting or Events. If you want a way to get money quick, summon mvps through a Profesor and hope for the best for a card. Also remember no matter what... dont kill any mob -_-, people randomly atack the mob and mvp at the same time but actually your chaces to get a mvp card are asured when everything you kill are mvps (unless you are me and have a luck that just cant be described). Yes it is posible to compete without donation equipment, I have owned donators on my non donation equipment (so funny xD). No its not posible to get 100% reductions wichever way you look at it... check out my guide there I explain pretty much everything about reductions and stuff (just click in the quick guide to everything)
Defiance Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 Been playing this server for a year now and I never donated for anything. Donation items aren't exactly donation-only items. My best advice to you is to make use of economy manipulating strategies like making a good trade connection with other traders, go lowball with prices when buying then sell high. Sell stuff that are in demand, as well as stuff people don't usually sell but still has high demand. I for one have basically low merchant skills in my RO history, but I did just fine. And of course, don't forget to make friends. This game is best enjoyed with the company of good friends. It took me at least a month to get half decent, and that's because I'm a lazy bum. 2 months of casual playing (and friend searching) and I had my own set of donation items + cards. 1. Hunt for zeny (gold drops aren't that modified in gld_dun03, there's also a lot of loot in for_fild02). Buy donation coupons. 2. Farm the ff: a. Yggdrasilberry b. Deadly poison bottles c. box of storms/cursed water/converters d. glistening coat e. speed potions from the turbo room (my friend R e i n made a fortune out of it) f. work on getting a dungeon pass (allows you to access a dungeon with a better ygg spawn than the for_fild02 map) g. quest items which are always bought in bulk 3. MVP summoning using Abracadabra/MVP hunting with friends - it yields good harvest of MVP cards if you're patient enough. 4. Join events 5. Last but not the least, don't be afraid to take risks and mingle with people. Hold good conversations with them and most people would be glad to help you out. If you need more help, feel free to ask me about it. EDIT: and oh, it does feel like a low rate with high rate features. Character building takes major brains, but donating is not mandatory to win. I assure you, rumors are just rumors. Donating doesn't make you extra leet in this server. Have fun ;D
Kuyuti Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 With the new release of the new ND belts you can easily farm up the items to make them and sell them for a pretty high rate :) 100 smilks for 3 dqps O.o >.>. But there are other ways was well. You just have to work hard. I have earned about 250 DQPs in the past 2 days without donating :) so just play it smart and if you need base zenny @warp for_fild02 @ali 2344 that should give you some zenny but the armors are very heavy :/ lol. but ya there isn't a way to -100% demi-human reduction XP it isn't calculated like that :)
Feitan Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 it will be always like that, donation = shortcut to high end equip, there are few servers that arent like that. but i can tell you, when theres donation theres lazyness and a non donater can abuse it. i didnt donate yet cuz i dont have mo, but i still got some good gear i think its only the question if you want to work for it or not... because u cant get anything w/o work (even donators have to work for their money). And i think this server has a pretty good balance between donators and non donators because in my opinion u can get faster on donation items than on other servers
Devotion Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 The elite quests (which I'm assuming are the long quests you refer to), are not strenuously long, and they are a small grade below forsaken gear. I've known a few players who can stand their ground in donor PVP with no donation gear, but that all depends on strategy and how good you are. Look at it like this, if we didn't have items worth donating for we'd have no Fro. There is a good and ugly side to almost anything, this being a prime example. And the fact that we try to make this play like a lowrate isn't a bad thing. In fact people get bored less. With the release of non donor belts it's very certain that non-donor PVP will fill up, giving non donors a real chance of winning the PVP ladder. I also have never donated, but everything is manageable without the money. A good way to start would be to max a hunting/MVP class, then questing the elite gears for the class. If you find newbs or friendly players willing to MVP with you, you can have a beautiful transition to donor gears. And those players you see with donates didn't necessarily donate for them. Half of them likely didn't. The grand point I think we're all trying to make is that you won't know if you like it here until you try ;)
chalkzone Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Well I've played here for about 10months. It took me about 7 months to complete all my PvP stuffs(Donation gears and MvP cards). Then I quitted playing and gave away all my stuffs LOL. Now 6 months since I quitted, I got bored and decided to play again. And yes, I'm starting from scratch again(using NPC buyable equips and 0 zeny). The only item that I didn't gave away was my Dragon Aurora(had a sentimental value). If you'd ask me it's way easier to earn equips now than before. Back then, coupons are worth 100m and berries had a price ratio of 4:1. Ive been only playing for 2-3weeks now and I've already earned 200+ coupons. You could earn some zeny through looting Lucius's Fierce Armor of Volcano(dropped by Fox) in for_fild03. Get a wiz and SG+LoV those nasty fox and you'll earn as much as 2m per minute. 30m is a high price for a coupon. There are many ppl selling them for 20-25m. Please don't get envious of the advantages the donators get. They are spending their real life's fortune on a game. Im not saying that donating is not a good idea, since it helps the server alot. But can you imagine spending 1000-2000 dollars? Yes, that's how much you have to donate if you want to have every equips and cards possible in an instant, including thanas, emp auroras and rucksacks(I'm not even sure if that amount of money is already enough). I've pawned quite a handful of donaters back then in my Lord Knight days. So Yes, it is possible. PvP here would always be 40% equips, 57% skills and 3% Luck.
Ryoji Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 oh PS: Money here = Stone of Sage. Lies. There are much faster ways to get zeny. Hell, even the weak firering drops lucius fierce armor of volcano which sells for 50k each, and is just one south of forsaken city. or you could just sell hunted items to players for money... and alot of other ways. =3
xBiscuit Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Lucius's Fierce Armor of Volcano : 68k. I think that is the items that sell the most for zeny to NPC's. How much do SoS sell for? :3
Dr. Love Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Well. I'm nearing 1 year and about 5 months of playing this server, and I'm telling you that I have not donated a cent. I obtained good gear through hunting and winning the lots of events held daily by the Game Masters of this server. And no matter how many times I try to quit, I'm drawn back to this server. I mean no offense to the administrators, but this server is rather easy. All you do is make a High Wizard then just hunt what is in demand. There are lots of quest items in this server, and these quests have requirements of thousands of the same object, meaning most people will buy this due to laziness. It might sound evil, but you have to be smart. You have to take advantage of everything presented to you. Let's say a person is selling something for 10 Coupons, buy it then sell it for 20. Seriously though, the numerous events held daily in this server help all people a lot. Each event gives roughly 7 Event Coupons. If you win one, then trade off immediately for 14 Donation Coupons (yes, some people trade these) and you have doubled your coupons. Obtaining the donor set is your least priority, what you need to do is get good cards. Lets say you win about 2 of the 30+ Rounds of events held daily, then you can get good hunting cards in about 3 days or so. My first advise is that you get a kiel card, as it would greatly help your hunting speed up. Forget the Stone of Sages and all those zenies, make your way with coupons. After obtaining lets say your first kiel card, then go hunt the quest requirements for the latest quests. People buy thousands of those stuff and about 3 monsters drop it in the same map (except for cards). So this is actually an easy task. Most people just buy them because they're lazy, they get overwhelmed by the number, or simply because they can afford to buy it. Don't bother MVPing. It would take too long for a beginner to kill one, and it drops a card at only 10% chance. By the time you kill one, you could have already hunted stuff equal to about 20~30 coupons or so. Bottom line is, don't get intimidated with all the people you see with "fancy" stuff. All of them started of somewhere. Honestly, I started alone and I already obtained by first Forsaken Helm in about 3 days WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back then. And I'm telling you that it was a lot tougher to get coupons then compared to now. It took me a while obtaining my first Forsaken Set ( There were still no elite sets back then ) but after I got it, it was all smooth-sailing. You can't deny that being one of the first people to obtain a full Forsaken Set will somewhat make you look incredible. At this point, I started befriending people ( as I look good now ). Friends are what you should be having. Yes, it's hard to make friends especially since you're new. But you must try. Once you get friends, you have a support system of your own. That's pretty much about it.
Kittie Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Lucius fire armor takes up inventory slots. Stone of sage takes up only 1. The efficiency trade off. [;
Ryoji Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Lucius fire armor takes up inventory slots. Stone of sage takes up only 1. The efficiency trade off. [; Ya, but thana tower sucks in comparison to for_fild01. Simplicity of maps > less items due to complication of maps
Defiance Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 But we have @warp. SG and warp ftw.
gamersrule26 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 ye but in tha_t09, thers loads of monsters in a small map and u can get harps too from lady solaces. And lucius volcano armor thingy weighs lke 200 while stone of sage weighs 30(i think).
vietnameseboy Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Well there is a way to get past 100% reduction but its not all demi-human The forsaken King shield is 20% reduce with the Usakoring card 35% reduce = 55% reduce Some headgear like Poring Tower and the Devi hat have 15% demi-human reduce then there's Elemental reduce, Sacred Gold wings is a pvp earned wing 10% reduce of everything I have a garment called Asprika its 30% all element reduce. So you can reduce damage a lot but its spread out into different groups so you can't reduce 100% of anything.
» Pat Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I have a garment called Asprika its 30% all element reduce. I still wonder where you got it because it's not showing up via @whodrops or @ii.
gamersrule26 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 maybe its a new item and the server hasnt updated yet and isnt the demi-human thing offtopic ?

Kuyuti Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 It is a God Item http://irowiki.org/wiki/God_Items_Quest_2
Defiance Posted February 21, 2009 Report Posted February 21, 2009 Which is weird since the ingredients for the quest are all castle drops (which isn't implemented yet).
