Reflect damage (the damage you deal to melee attackers) is enough to auto-cast/trigger skills such as Strip Shield, Strip Weapon, Dispell, etc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Therefore, those chance effects are triggered because your character is technically attacking them in melee. Therefore, those same cards do not work if reflect is not triggered and you are not attacking using melee(being hit by magic attacks or ranged attacks).
