Ship Captain Hat only affects physical ranged damage. Acid Demo is considered magical.

The upside of a slotted Ice Pick is the Thana effect. The downside is everything else, or the majority of what makes a breaker, such as cards like Turtle General and Abysmal Knight. I'd say that you go for Ice Pick if you really want the Thana effect and you're willing to sacrifice consistent damage output.
